My favorite teams
  1. Chicago Cubs
  1. Chicago Bulls
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Illinois Fighting Illini
As of 9/13/16...

  • Cubs have the starting pitcher with best ERA in the National League
  • Cubs have the best team ERA in the National League.
  • Cubs have 4 of the top 6 pitchers in hits/9 innings currently
  • Cubs are 2nd in run production in the National League
  • Cubs have best defense in MLB according to Fangraphs
  • Chapman has best ERA of his career since joining the Cubs

While the playoffs are a crapshoot, it sure has been fun watching this terrific season unfold. I'm sure there are more current facts that are cool. I got it started here. Please post some 2016 Cubs facts you've found.

The guys at 670 this morning talked about balls put into play have a 30% chance of being a hit. Except for Our Cubs. Every ball put in play only has a 25% chance of becoming a hit. That leads the majors by a lot. Best D in our lifetime? At least from a Chicago standpoint anyway.

The Cubs starters have the best ERA in the entire of MLB. They are so far ahead of everyone else that's it really not even close. We're going to have the Cy Young winner, and MVP, and the best record in MLB. Those are all quite accomplishments.

Cool stuff - for now. Without a World Series win, none of this means a darn thing. In fact, without a win, the stigma placed on the Lovable Losers will be even worse after this type of season.

I believe we're going to win it all this year and we better otherwise we will be the brunt of more jokes than normal. When we do win it all, these statistics will point to a truly memorable team.

This is a current fact thread, not a wish list.

Do you have any 2016 facts to add or just want to take the thread off-topic?

OK fact, the Cubs pitching staff has a 3.07 ERA. The next best team in about 30 points higher. Hendricks has an ERA of 2.04, Lester 2.40, Arrieta 2.79. That is dominant pitching and is going to get us a WS this year. I do agree though that not winning a WS this year makes the year a failure. If you're clearly the best team in baseball you should win the WS.

I did add facts. The stats are cool. Don't win it all and they mean nothing. Those are facts.

This is true. That's why when we do win it all people will look back and call this team one of the best ever. Maybe not the best but certainly to be discussed with the 27,39,61, and 98 Yankees, 76 Reds, the 93 Blue Jays, the 70 Orioles, and the 1907 Cubs. This team has always reminded me of the 1907 Cubs who had unhittable pitching and great defense. Our pitching and defense will win us the WS this year.

Sorry you look at it that way. Prepare for disappointment as the odds are still against them winning the WS this year.

You have to enjoy the ride. They have been fun as hell to watch this year, and they should be next year as well. Pinning all of your hopes to OMG WE HAS TO WIN WS THIS YEAR is a great way to have an awful October. Just relax a little and appreciate watching great baseball.

If you're clearly the best team in baseball you should win the WS.

Nope, if you're the hottest team in baseball during the playoffs, you should win the WS...
