So now that the dust has settled, how are you going to remember Ryan Dempster as a Cub? He was a fan favorite and then everything ended sort of ugly and strange.

It's a shame that a player would allow his final impression to be one of dishonesty.

As a Sox fan, my opinion of him did change, but not as drastically as some of yours probably. I viewed him as one of the greatest Cubs, personality wise, to play on the team, and that one day he would achieve the same status as Kerry Wood, Billy Williams, Ron Santo, and Ernie Banks in the Cubs community as team ambassadors. Now however, I think he has tainted his image and reputation a bit. A casual fan will not see it or care as much as the die-hard Cubs fans on this site, so an ambassadorship is still a possibility, but for me his legacy is now as forgettable as any other Cub to go through the organization. You can't overlook his years of service to the team, even though the first couple were terrible, but you also can't overlook the fact that he kind of screwed the organization's development for the future.

I honestly don't give a shit  He was a solid pitcher, not spectacular, not crap. Now he's somebody else's problem. When 10-5 rights are involved the dude can do whatever the hell he wants and getting huffy over it won't change that so I didn't even bother to muster up more than disappointment. His life will go on, as will mine.

Let’s try to make this the final Ryan Dempster post until the off-season. As when the off-season hits, we know we’re going to hear “will Ryan Dempster return to Chicago?”. Dempster said “Chicago has always been my kind of town” and that’s saying there is a possibility Dempster could return after the season. I doubt the the Texas Rangers will offer compensation to Dempster, since it’s has to be in the 13-13.5 million range. Dempster would probably accept it as he won’t get that much in free agency.

Dempster may regret the decision to decline a trade to the Atlanta Braves after he game up 8 runs for the Rangers yesterday. Dempster did not give up more than 7 runs in all of June and July. The Cubs and Dempster would have been happy. However, one of the players the Cubs got for Dempster, Christian Villanueva hit 2 home runs in his first 2 at-bats in his Cubs debut.

Dempster put out a full page article in the Chicago Tribune and you can see it here

Okay, that is all of Dempster for now… Here’s news on the waiver period:

Usually every player go on waivers to see if a team claims them, does not get blocked and see if they can slip through waivers.

The Cubs will try and put Matt Garza, Brian LaHair Jeff Baker on waivers and hope they go unclaimed or a team wins the waiver that actually want hm. However, since these 3 players are cheap, a team will likely block the waiver and the Cubs won’t be able to deal them.

There are 2 Cubs that will probably go un-claimed in waivers. Since there contract is too big and if a team claims them, they will have to pay the whole contract.

Alfonso Soriano: The Detroit Tigers were reportedly working on a deal for Soriano, but both teams could not reach a deal. Soriano gave the Cubs a list of teams who he would accept a trade too. To me, since both teams were working on a deal together, he would accept a trade to the Tigers. He would have also accept a trade to the Los Angeles Dodgers, but that went out the door when the Dodgers acquired OF Shane Victorino. Also, Soriano reportedly rejected a trade to the Pittsburgh Pirates and the San Francisco Giants.

Carlos Marmol: He is owe too much money and a team will not take that on. He is owe 12.4 million and is a free agent after next season. He has not blown a save in a while and I think a team will take a chance on him if money is coming their way. One team that may want to take a chance on Marmol is the Giants. The Giants need bullpen help and he will help them out.

Jed Hoyer said “we will continue to be active in August”. So, I guess we will find out if they’re active or not.

Even though the Cubs missed out on Randall Delgado, the players they DID get back in the trades that actually happened still could be very good for them. So I don't hate him as much anymore because they were able to get those guys back.

My thought is that his last name rhymed with "Dumpster".

I remember when I went to my first Cubs game, the day before we went my grandpa (a sox fan) couldn't stop saying "bring your glove because Dumpster is going to get rocked, he sucks" that was the first time I ever heard him called dumpster

Ryan handled the situation with Atlanta very poorly. If the team was on your list, even though they weren't his top choice, there's no reason to drag it out and then lie to Twitter and then lie that you didn't decline to go there. If you honestly wanted to go to LA so badly, don't list other options until you're absolutely sure that LA isn't a viable destination. In the end, it made Dempster look pretty bad, from a fan's perspective and from opposing GM's views as well.

But it's over and done with. Ryan and his wife have done some great things in the Chicago community and I believe he is honestly a really good guy. He'll be missed and best of luck to him in Arlington.

I've always liked him. And will still hope he does good. He is always a Cub to me. Shit happens with trades all the time. It's all part of the business.

Honestly, I like the guy, and hope he succeeds. He was an above avg player for us, and willing to do whatever was in the best interest of the team (on the field).

I will still never forget the garbage throwin incident when he was a closer still and AJ hit a grand slam off of him, and all that trash was thrown on the field. A real low point for the Cubs.
