Big upgrade IMO. Very reminiscent of when Maddon was available, so they fired Renteria

Lmfao all the fans here who thought the Cubs would stick with Ross after that abortion of a job he did managing this team.

At least Ricketts has some sense.

The job he did last year was one of the worst jobs I’ve ever seen from a major league manager. He made too many mistakes to count. He deserves it. I doubt anyone else will hire him honestly.
This is unequivocally incorrect.

His lineups kind of sucked. People want to rag on him for the bullpen collapse but the issue is he had absolutely zeros across the board in the bullpen the last 2 years and maximized what he got out of those guys up until September this year when there was nobody he could put in that could get outs. The rotations he was provided left a lot to be desired as well

This is unequivocally incorrect.
Hitting Suzuki 3rd or 4th for 2 and a half months where Suzuki posted a .601 OPS over that stretch?

In what world does Suzuki get that kind of leash?

Suzuki stranded an ungodly number of runners in that stretch and we lost a huge amount of 1 run games in that stretch.

That decision alone cost us the playoffs.

Also, hitting Bellinger 4th for the entire season almost after he came back from injury instead of 2nd is the lowest IQ move I can think of, especially with a mandatory DH and no pitcher in the lineup.

Even little kids know you hit your best hitter 2nd or at worst 3rd in 2023 to maximize at bats. Not Rossy though.

Very good move.

And an aggressive move which is a great sign.

Not worried about the Brewers’ record in last ten postseason games when this guy had them in instead of on the outside where Ross had the Cubs.

Counsell is not the most likable guy and Ross is likable, but that’s not what this is about. It’s about getting the job done.

“Nice guy? Good father? Go home and play with your kids!”

I haven’t seen a single post from anyone that would indicate there are Ross fanboys or that there’s any melting going on.

You sound like Justin “laughing at everyone “ when everyone felt the same way.

Can’t people just be happy with good news and not try to make themselves the story ? Trump-like.

Several people here called me an idiot when I said Ross was done for after that collapse, just remembering that. Said it’d be crazy to fire someone who had such a great season.
