I wouldn't mind offering him a minor league deal or something, but this is why getting pitching is so important.
So getting avg pitchers is more important then getting a superstar? Im thinking long run and the superstar makes more sense
Long term can change pretty quickly, and if Fielder follows the career path of his dad he really only has a few more peak years left. And while I understand that the pitching available isn't overwhelming this year, but we are already starting to see all those amazing pitchers that were suppose to be available a year from now are not even hitting the market (Weaver, Wainwright). I have a hard time believing that my team with CJ Wilson and Carlos Pena wouldn't be better the next two years than your team with Fielder and Rodrigo Lopez.
Tired of hearing his dad career.Prince is not his dad. So PLEASE stop that argument. Wainwright was never an option for 2013. Everyone knew they going to pick up his option. Honestly it wouldnt be CJ/Pena vs Fielder/Lopez.
He isn't his dad, but he does have a very similar body type. It is something to be wary about. I would love to add Fielder, but if it means that the pitching has to be left alone than that is the wrong move for this season and beyond.
Look we've gone back and forth on this. I just don't see how you can ignore pitching in the short term, and hope that guys will be out there for you down the road. I understand the value of Fielder and if I can get a legitimate upgrade to the top of the rotation (Wilson, Buehrle etc.) than I would be more than happy with that offseason. That said I am just hoping that we can land one of the top FAs at a position of need for this team.As you said there is only 1 pitcher that is worth anything past 2012. Then there are guys in 2013 in SP that is worth getting while 1B FA over the next 2 years its Fielder, Pujols, and then NOTHING in 2013. So i fill my 1B with a Superstar then try to get vets/ injury guys on 1 year deal next year and then go after SP in 2013...There is NO WAY all those guys resign. There was even article on ESPN saying just cause Weaver took home discount that they dont expect Hamels, Cain + to do so.

When the team is bad as the Cubs there are quite of few needs. Yes SP is prolly a bigger need but just like the draft i dont pick SP spec over 1B spec who has more potential because the team needs it. I pick what can HELP the team for next year and the future. Fielder improves the team 2012 and since only be 28 he would still be in his prime in 2-3 years which by then Cubs should be about done with rebuilding face. So im thinking 2-3 years down the road more then next year.
I understand the logic D3A. I just seeing pitching need as more dire than I think some of at this point in time. I disagree with your analogy because free agency is the definition of making moves for the short term versus the draft which is long term. Because in baeball prospects are so far away from making an impact at the time of the draft it doesn't make sense to draft for needs on the big league club. Whereas in free agency what else are suppose to address apart from the short term needs of the club.
Does anyone actually think that the Cubs will have Rodrigo in their rotation this year? That was just a "Ihavetomeetmydeadline" type of article from Gordo. It's pure speculation. If we hire a GM that lets a 36 year old pitcher with a career era of 5.13 in the NL, I think we are going to have much bigger, long-term problems.
I don't put anything past the Cubs :lol:Does anyone actually think that the Cubs will have Rodrigo in their rotation this year? That was just a "Ihavetomeetmydeadline" type of article from Gordo. Rodrigo Lopez is a servicable spot starter at best.
