Today the Chicago Cubs picked up yet another intriguing young arm off of the waiver wire, grabbing 24-year-old righty Eduardo Sanchez from the Cardinals. He’ll head to the Iowa Cubs for now.

Sanchez broke out with some impressive numbers out of the pen for the Cardinals in 2011, but couldn’t quite replicate that success in 2012. He struggled at AAA in 2012, and was off to a mixed start there this year as well – he’s seen just 9.2 innings of work, putting up a 3.72 ERA, but striking out just 6.5 per 9 (by far a career low) and walking 3.7 per 9.

Thanks for the update.

Kinda funny how players not even good enough to be left on other team's 40 man roster are seen as part of the great building of the system.

The way things are going with the Cubs, anyone released off of another team's roster is probably an improvement on ours. We have a AAA team here anyway. Maybe they like the experience factor that these guys have been on an actual real MLB team and not a AAA wannabe.

He's an absolute stud reliever when he's healthy, but he's never healthy. Used to be one of our top prospects, ahead of guys like Rosenthal, Lynn, Kelly, etc. Just hasn't been himself since he got hurt during the 2011 season. He was absolutely filthy coming out of the pen. I remember his first game up that year he pitched to 7 guys and struck out 5.

Just too small and can't stay healthy.

Well it's not a bad thing. With any luck. Hemmoroidys Vizcaino and Scott Baker will allow him to carpool with them so only to use up one of the handicapped spots.

It's not like the Cubs are the Humane Society for injured and displaced players.

Upgrade over Blowden......glorious. I think a kindergartener could have done a better job in the 7th inning than that hack. Camp too.

Now can he find a guy who can hit semi-consistently with RISP? Or is that too much to or unreasonable to ask for?

Too unreasonable. He is trying to lose games; not win them.

My mistake.

I could have swore at one time they said they were doing everything they can to win the world series....

But to some slurpers, amazing players grow on trees and dont cost money and are always young.....
