On May 20, the Ricketts Family and the Chicago Cubs celebrated the grand opening of the brand new Cubs Dominican Academy. The new academy will be the largest property of any academy in the country and will serve as an off-season training facility for major league and minor league players. The academy will be a center of excellence for aspiring baseball players from across Latin America, including Venezuela, Panama, Colombia, Brazil, Nicaragua, Aruba, Curacao and Mexico. Architect Jose Mella designed the academy.
