Rockford broadcaster named Cubs' P.A. announcer - Chicago Breaking Sports

The Cubs selected Rockford River Hawks employee Andrew Belleson as their new public address announcer Friday, ending a three-week search that included live auditions at Wrigley Field.

Belleson was the P.A. announcer and also held radio broadcast duties for the minor league team in Rockford. The Arlington Heights native was one of 2,954 applications for the opening, which became available when Paul Friedman left the organization.

The Cubs said Belleson is a lifelong Cubs fan who idolized Harry Caray. He will meet the media later Friday afternoon at Wrigley.

He won me over when he said Carlos Marmol had an era of 1.17 and 36 saves!

Really though, he doesn't sound like anything special over some of the other videos I've watched but good for him.

I'm sure this whole thing had a lot more to do w/ publicity and how much Monster.Com paid the Cubs than it did actually searching for a PA guy.
