Cubs put C Soto on DL - MLB - Yahoo! Sports

CHICAGO (AP)—The Chicago Cubs put catcher Geovany Soto(notes) on the 15-day disabled list with a left groin strain Wednesday and recalled catcher Welington Castillo(notes) from Triple-A Iowa.

Soto was injured in the top of the first inning in Tuesday night’s 6-4 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals and replaced by pinch-hitter Koyie Hill(notes) in the bottom of the inning.

Soto is batting .226 with eight doubles, three home runs and 12 RBI in 31 games with the Cubs this season.

Castillo made his major league debut with the Cubs last season, batting .300 with a homer and five RBIs in seven games.

I'm sure Castillo will start Thursday.

I'm not sure why the Cubs hold Soto in such high regard. It's his 3rd DL stint in 3 years. Should have traded him last year.

Catchers get hurt. It happens.

We can't give up on a catcher with a career .821 OPS

Yes, but that number would be lower if he wasn't on the DL at least once a season.

Just like the Cubs couldn't give up on Prior and Wood either, huh?

Or maybe the guy is a one year wonder?

Funny how his so called power came then disappeared.

Loss in power can be attributed to number of PAs.

2009/2010 he lost over 100 PAs compared to 2008 due to injury.

Easily figured out.

It's not like you're going to get a catcher to play everyday anyway. A DL stint isn't the worst thing ever.

Wood and Prior are pitchers, there is a big difference there.
