this is the dumbest things i have seen in a while, an owner begging for money and goes out and spends 10 million for ONE year rental player in a non contending season, wow, what a way to try to appease the fans. so dumb.

another bad signing by hendry.

Yes, they overpaid him. But that's what he was asking for and wouldn't bring it down. It isn't a dumb signing part from the money, and I actually agree with CO that is average will go up, his BABIP will be higher. He plays stellar defense, and it is a 1 year deal. You are complaining just to complain.

$10 million is way too much for a one-year rental. I'm fine with signing Pena as a stop-gap until next year, but that's a rather steep price tag for someone who could very well suck ass.

Eh, whatever. It's a Cubs tradition.

I'm not mad. I was, but I decided it's fine. Look at the deals out there and this is not a bad deal. Pena is better then Berkman and Berkman got 8M. Pena will hit the hr, drive in runs and his average won't be too bad (.250-.270) and I can live with that. Also, he was dealing with injury all of last year. I expect a bounce back year. But, I think there has to be a trade for Kosuke now to cut budget. Because that contract was more than I expected.

OK, cool.

I just hope they still pull off the Davis trade.

O'Day in the back-end of the rotation, Pena at 1B and Davis back-up 1B doesn't look too bad.

The Tigers reportedly offered Armando Galarraga for Gorzelanny.

LaRoche wanted to be a Nat, so ya. And before anyone says Hendry made a bad deal, remember that they had to bribe him down to just 1 year and he's a Scott Boras client.

If it is a 1 year contract, that's why it is 10M. So if it is, it's a win win for both sides. But there are reports that say 1 year and some that say 2 years. I guess we just wait and see.

The 2 year with 3rd year option reports were from yesterday. Muskat said 1 year, 10 Mil.

I'm good w/ this deal. I wanted LaRoche, but he did not want Chicago. To me, this move also signals somebody is on their way out. So, there that is.

makes no sense unless the Cubs think they can win the World Series.
