Quoting bleacher nation here...

Even if the bullpen features eight arms to start the year, consider that Hector Rondon, Pedro Strop, Justin Grimm, Travis Wood, Trevor Cahill, and Adam Warren are locks if healthy, and Clayton Richard is probably just about right there, too. That would leave just one spot for a group that includes Parra, Rex Brothers, C.J. Riefenhauser, Zac Rosscup, Neil Ramirez, Carl Edwards, Jr., Spencer Patton, Brandon Gomes, Jean Machi, Jonathan Pettibone, Armando Rivero, and Andury Acevedo, among many others.

Seeing this I have to believe they are stretching Edwards out as a starter in AAA unless all of that is just shit. You take an already deep and good pen last year and literally add 11+ options in camp there's gotta be no room for him as a reliever right?

Everything I've seen if that they've decided Edwards is a reliever going forward and that he'll spend the year in AAA developing as a late inning option.

Ive seen projected lineups with him in it. Also, the Cubs are stretching out Trevor Cahill this spring in case of injury.

What's even their likely AAA starters? Not saying your wrong or anything but just mentally trying to figure this out. Johnson almost assuredly is. Pettibone IIRC was a starter coming up in Philly's system so seems like he'd be fine as a emergency option. Carlos Pimentel, Dallas Beeler, Felipe Paulino, Eric Jokisch, and Drake Britton made starts in AAA last year. I think all of those except possibly Britton are still around.

I mean it's not a huge issue for the MLB team considering they have like 8 starters likely to make the team out of camp but someone's gotta pitch those innings in AAA. Seems like even if the long term plan is for Edwards to be a reliever you might as well let him pitch those innings in AAA and get more experience.

Honestly I'm not sure. Maybe they will. I was a bit surprised when I saw Jason McLeod quoted as such a couple of months back. Maybe they've changed their minds. As far as other pitchers Ryan Williams is moving fast. After 88 IP in AA last year he could start in Iowa.

Good call. Forgot about him.

I imagine Parra is basically trying to just get time on a mound with a MLB team. He's is repersented by CAA (a fairly large agency in the game) so this is one of those "help me now, help you later" moves. I cannot imagine Parra takes a AAA assignment.
