Cubs Targeting Adam LaRoche
By Tim Dierkes [December 7 at 2:06pm CST]
The Cubs are targeting first baseman Adam LaRoche and would like to close a deal soon, reports CBS Sports' Scott Miller. The Nationals are known to be in on LaRoche as well. The 31-year-old hit .261/.320/.468 with 25 home runs in 615 plate appearances for the Diamondbacks this year, earning $6MM.

Both clubs have also been linked to Carlos Pena; Cubs GM Jim Hendry met with Scott Boras on that front but did not exchange dollar figures, tweets MLB.com's Carrie Muskat.

Finally!

If we can get Laroche, Webb, and wood
Trade fuku for Scutaro
Re-Sign Nady

I'd be happy

As long as it's a stop-gap solution and we go hard after Pujols or the world's fattest vegetarian next winter, I'm find with it.

I think Laroche will fit nicely for the price! Until we get rid of some of these outrageous contracts (Soriano & Ramirez) I don't think we will see this team make any big splashes.

A lot of the money from Hendry's reckless half billion dollar spending spree will be coming off the books soon, like after next year.

I don't mind the move at all-hopefully we don't overpay though for a guy who shows up strictly post ASB. Don't get me wrong I like the lefty power hitter in the lineup and he may be able to fare well in Wrigley, but we're already financially locked in Soriano and A-Ram.

Ya, Webb, Wood, LaRoche, Nady, and Scutaro would be perfect. Probably shed slary that way. Trade Gorzelanny too IMO.

Pena is still the Cubs first choce. LaRoche is a back-up plan. The Cubs are expected to meet with Pena's reps on Tuesday night again.

He's not worth the 2-3 MM he's going to cost. LaHair is free, essentially. Nady makes 0 sense anyway you think about it.

No, Nady does make some sense. He play good defense, and would hit much better than LaHair.

Oh, and do you have a link that says he's going to cost 2-3 Million?

Much better? .660 OPS out of a 1B is sooooooooo good. Hoffpauir can do that and LaHair basically = The Hoff.

Well, considering he made 3.3 last year, it just takes a little common sense to figure that one out.
