Z only gave up 2 f***ing runs. The first inning was rough, but he got out of it unscathed. The fourth inning he was victimized by shitty defense, and yet he only gave up 2 earned runs in his outing.

looking bad

I am beginning to think that the Cubs aren't going to make a run. Changing the order everyday is like rearranging the deck chairs on the titanic, nothing changes.. loses keep piling one. I can't think of anything that could help: Trade - maybe, Aramis coming back - probably not.

At the end of the day, most people on this board blame Lou. I take the opposite stance, and blame the players. But really, it's a sick combination of both coaches and players. I don't think Lou has given up, but I think he's losing his faith. I don't think the players are playing every game like professionals, either.

Start the firesale :(

True Z only gave up 2 earned runs, but once again racked up a huge pitch count by the fifth inning. He's still ineffective and has walked more batters (11) than had strikeouts (9) in his three starts back in the rotation. At this point he's not even a .500 innings eater. He's pitching more like Jeff Suppan than an ace and can no longer get the big out, let alone the strikeout. Sure his defense let him down, but he hasn't been able to pick them up either. His stuff just isn't there anymore and it's time to scrap that cutter for good and become a sinker baller again.

I agree with you I don't blame Lou, but I am not a fan of the constantly revolving lineup. It seems like some of the players have begun to quit, knowingly or not. There just isn't any fire on this ball club. This year's disaster has been a combined effort of coaching, playing, management, and bad contracts getting older. I agree it may be time to start the fire sale. This feels a lot like a lame duck season to just clear house of players, coaches, management with new owner is place. Sad feeling from the Northside.

At least a firesale for the Cubs means missing the playoffs for noly another year or two before being back to a playoof team. I think they could even do a firesale now and get back to the playoffs next season. They could sign FA's with a spending spree (won't have old contracts to worry about).

They will still have the old contracts though because no team is going to take on that money. Realistically the Cubs only have a few trade options right now and most of them are pitching. Ted Lilly, who's contract is up, and Tom Gorzelanny are needed commodities around the league. No one is shopping for a first baseman, except LAA and Derrek Lee is nowhere near the best option. Lance Berkman and Paul Konerko are available now and Adam Laroche and Adrian Gonzalez may be soon enough. Maybe with the Cubs eating plenty of money the right deal will come around for Fukodome and their is no way with their contracts the Cubs can move Zambrano, Soriano, or Ramirez. The two position players the Cubs may be able to deal will be Xavier Nady and Ryan Theriot.

I was at Game 1. The place was dead before the rain delay.

This team is pathetic.

Biggest cheer all night was literally ONE SECOND AFTER the Cubs lost...funny enough...No one was paying attention to the game. Everyone was cheering across the street at the rooftops where the Stanley Cup was being hoisted up in the air.
