The Cubs fought back to tie it 4-4 at the end of 7.

They allowed the go ahead run in the 8th but the big blow was Dexter Fowler missed a fly ball with 2 outs then slipped and allowed 2 more huge runs. So, now its a 3 run lead. Really, really bad play by Fowler.

Shat the bed game.

Fowler....happens....yikes...

Jackson...there comes a time when you swallow your pride and accept your losses and show the mistake to the door.

Happens? Yes, but I bet he thinks about it. That made him look really bad.

It's not only Jackson as Strop is falling back into old habits. True, it was Fowler's screw up but dipshit Strop walks the leadoff man in the 8th inning of a tie game...that almost always leads to a run. You wonder how that inning would've played out had he not walked that guy.

Seeing them hold onto Wood, Jackson and Coghlan and then promote Wada vs trading up for a proven SP makes me question if they are 100% in this year.

Seeing how they pushed back Hammel a game to split up Hendricks and Wada makes me think they are trying to win games...or is it to just save the pen abuse... who knows.

They are giving up mixed signals. You would think after the investments this year they would be willing to swing a deal. It maybe early but I doubt the Phills would balk on the right offer. Adams went down for the Cards...Doubt they do nothing... that is the thing here. Winning teams do things to win. Cubs are still playing both sides of the fence. I believe it is past that time. They should have their projected team and keep those players intact and be willing to use the rest to bring in the player that they need.

Jackson: 2 hits 1 BB. Gave up a unearned run on his own error. Struck out none. He is a waste of space.

Strop...he gets into funks. Not sure why to be honest. But he could just strike out the side the next game. It is not like he just goes out there every game and sucks eggs.

Fowler...the thing is with him is he have given alot to this team and I'm ok with bad games. It happens but when the body of work over all has been better than expected a bump in the road is acceptable.

Now
Jackson
just
plain
sucks

Theo needs to man up and cut his losses.

Good grief! Really?

You think they should part with prospects AND eat Jackson's salary before the season starts in order to rid themselves of Wood and Jackson? I hardly think that's a sign they aren't thinking of competing. But to wait this long and start trading prospects too quickly to try and accelerate things by one season would be a huge, huge mistake.

They still are competing this year, and the trade deadline is still a full two months away.

Exactly. Competing. I pretty much think that is what most of us were hoping for....competing for a playoff spot. If they make it or even get close it's a huge step forward. The only thing I'd like them to do is eat Jackson's contract as it's been a trainwreck since day one. That's the open spot for Ramierz when he gets healthy. Other than that....just play the games and see where things sit at the trade deadline. The timing is all wrong for trading off young assets for back of their career veterans.

I am intrigued by the Papelbon talk if he can be had without giving up a lot of talent. Just pick up that hefty salary.

They are falling behind right now. We are seeing them getting beat up by teams that are play off level teams. Nats, Royals, Cards. I gauge these teams when giving an honest look at where this team is at.

To be 100% honest here. I would have started Alcantara in LF every day when Denorfia was injured the first time. I'm questioning if he will stay healthy this year at all. But what I know is Alcantara can give Coghlan's HR's while on a learning curve with the league. He is good for a .200 BA and would end the platoon in LF all together.

That makes sense to me if you are trying to develop players. Not toss Cog's out there. That is not trying to win that is just tossing a live body out in LF.

Jackson I would shit can. End of story. They are going to have to eat that deal regardless. He gives no value to the team at all right now. They would be better with German or Shitter...ya that is my opinion on Jackson. Shitter would be more worthy soaking innings in lost causes.

We can't depend on Ramirez right now. When he is on a rehab then we can get excited.

If they cut Jackson I would like to see them open up a 40 man spot for Donn Roach. 1.09 WHIP. He has been pretty much the ace of the staff down there and I would like to see if he would make a good long relief at the major league level. I don't expect him to start or anything. But as far as pen arms in Iowa. The best has been Yoanner Negrin. I'm not really up on him or how good his stuff is and all. But numbers wise it is respectable. 2.91 ERA 1.06 WHIP Striking out close to 1 per inning.

In the 11 games that Jackson has made appearances in this season, he has given up earned runs in 3 of those games. I'm not saying he is great or an all star before you accuse me of that, but he has not been terrible this year. 2013 and 2014 are old news and people were going to hate Jackson no matter what because of his contract. Even though he got that contract because he was the best available and Anibal Sanchez was already gone. People were upset because the Cubs were unable to get the better option.

He has been in low pressure situations for a reason. His 1 IR he got scored. So Maddon doesn't even trust him. All we have seen Maddon do with him is plug him in when the game is over and he wants to not use arms that matter.

Thus he is wasted space on the roster. This is just like what they did with Castillo. Did not want to give him up for nothing. But no one wanted their trash.

Absolutely. You don't pay $13 million a year to a player who "has not been terrible." Down the road...when all has been said and done...Theo will admit that this was not one of his better moments.

I agree with a lot of what you're posting except for trading for a SP. Not that I wouldn't at all, but with the FA class next offseason, and these guys developing better at the ML level than most of us thought, there's no reason to go for it this season. Let's be honest here, did you seriously even expect them to be as competitive as they have been against the better teams in the league?
