Good grief! Really?
You think they should part with prospects AND eat Jackson's salary before the season starts in order to rid themselves of Wood and Jackson? I hardly think that's a sign they aren't thinking of competing. But to wait this long and start trading prospects too quickly to try and accelerate things by one season would be a huge, huge mistake.
They still are competing this year, and the trade deadline is still a full two months away.
They are falling behind right now. We are seeing them getting beat up by teams that are play off level teams. Nats, Royals, Cards. I gauge these teams when giving an honest look at where this team is at.
To be 100% honest here. I would have started Alcantara in LF every day when Denorfia was injured the first time. I'm questioning if he will stay healthy this year at all. But what I know is Alcantara can give Coghlan's HR's while on a learning curve with the league. He is good for a .200 BA and would end the platoon in LF all together.
That makes sense to me if you are trying to develop players. Not toss Cog's out there. That is not trying to win that is just tossing a live body out in LF.
Jackson I would shit can. End of story. They are going to have to eat that deal regardless. He gives no value to the team at all right now. They would be better with German or Shitter...ya that is my opinion on Jackson. Shitter would be more worthy soaking innings in lost causes.
Exactly. Competing. I pretty much think that is what most of us were hoping for....competing for a playoff spot. If they make it or even get close it's a huge step forward. The only thing I'd like them to do is eat Jackson's contract as it's been a trainwreck since day one. That's the open spot for Ramierz when he gets healthy. Other than that....just play the games and see where things sit at the trade deadline. The timing is all wrong for trading off young assets for back of their career veterans.
We can't depend on Ramirez right now. When he is on a rehab then we can get excited.
If they cut Jackson I would like to see them open up a 40 man spot for Donn Roach. 1.09 WHIP. He has been pretty much the ace of the staff down there and I would like to see if he would make a good long relief at the major league level. I don't expect him to start or anything. But as far as pen arms in Iowa. The best has been Yoanner Negrin. I'm not really up on him or how good his stuff is and all. But numbers wise it is respectable. 2.91 ERA 1.06 WHIP Striking out close to 1 per inning.
