From cnn.com:

Ben Quayle, the son of former Vice President Dan Quayle who is seeking a House seat in Arizona, is making a splash with a new campaign ad in which he looks straight into the camera and declares, "Barack Obama is the worst president in history."

"My generation will inherit a weakened country," Quayle also says solemnly in the new 30-second spot. "Drug cartels in Mexico, tax cartels in DC. What's happened to America? I love Arizona. I was raised right. Someone needs to go to Washington and knock the hell out of the place."

No word if anyone asked him to spell potato yet.

I was just out there last week... and I kept seeing the posters and everything for "Quayle" and in the back of my mind I was wondering if it had anything to do with Dan "the Potatoe" Quayle.

It was good. It was just a burger like you'd be able to get around here, just knowingly cooked in lard. It was tasty, but I've had better.

Nurses didn't hurt either... they actually lined the inside counters with mirrors so lads (and I imagine a few ladies) could get a better "look"

There's also the Murphy Brown controversy and the "You're no Jack Kennedy" line.

None of which you'd look back on with a sense of satisfaction. The guy just kept shooting himself in the foot every time a mic was in front of him.

Famous Dan Quayle quotes. Enjoy! I highlighted my favorite - my high school teacher used to have that one posted in the room I remember.

1) "A low voter turnout is an indication of fewer people going to the polls."

2) "Bank failures are caused by depositors who don't deposit enough money to cover losses due to mismanagement."

3) "Bobby Knight told me this: 'There is nothing that a good defense cannot beat a better offense.' In other words a good offense wins."

4) "El Salvador is a democracy so it's not surprising that there are many voices to be heard here. Yet in my conversations with Salvadorans... I have heard a single voice."

5) "Every once in a while, you let a word or phrase out and you want to catch it and bring it back. You can't do that. It's gone, gone forever."

6) "For NASA, space is still a high priority."

7) "Great American sport. Horseshoes is a very great game. I love it."

8) "Hawaii has always been a very pivotal role in the Pacific. It is in the Pacific. It is a part of the United States that is an island that is right here. "

9) "I believe we are on an irreversible trend toward more freedom and democracy - but that could change."

10) "I couldn't help but be impressed by the magnitude of the earthquake."

11) "I deserve respect for the things I did not do."

12) "I do have a political agenda. It's to have as few regulations as possible."

13) "I don't watch it, but I know enough to comment on it."

14) "I have a very good family. I'm very fortunate to have a very good family. I believe very strongly in the family. It's one of the things we have in our platform, is to talk about it. "

15) "I have made good judgements in the past. I have made good judgements in the future."

16) "I just don't believe in the basic concept that someone should make their whole career in public service."

17) "I love California, I practically grew up in Phoenix."

18) "I pledge allegiance to the Christian flag, and to the Savior, for whose Kingdom it stands, one Savior, crucified, risen, and coming again, with life and liberty for all who believe. "

19) "I spend a great deal of time with the President. We have a very close, personal, loyal relationship. I'm not, as they say, a potted plant in these meetings."

Part II - I couldn't resist adding some more of these.

20) "If we don't succeed, we run the risk of failure."

21) "Republicans understand the importance of bondage between a mother and child."

22) "What a waste it is to lose one's mind. Or not to have a mind is being very wasteful. How true that is."

23) "Welcome to President Bush, Mrs. Bush, and my fellow astronauts."

24) "Mars is essentially in the same orbit . . . Mars is somewhat the same distance from the Sun, which is very important. We have seen pictures where there are canals, we believe, and water. If there is water, that means there is oxygen. If oxygen, that means we can breathe."

25) "The Holocaust was an obscene period in our nation's history. I mean in this century's history. But we all lived in this century. I didn't live in this century."

26) "The future will be better tomorrow."

27) "We're going to have the best-educated American people in the world."

28) "People that are really very weird can get into sensitive positions and have a tremendous impact on history."

29) "We have a firm commitment to NATO, we are a part of NATO. We have a firm commitment to Europe. We are a part of Europe."

30) "It's wonderful to be here in the great state of Chicago."

31) "A low voter turnout is an indication of fewer people going to the polls."

32) "Illegitimacy is something we should talk about in terms of not having it."

33) "We are ready for any unforeseen event that may or may not occur."

34) "Quite frankly, teachers are the only profession that teach our children."

35) "It isn't pollution that's harming the environment. It's the impurities in our air and water that are doing it."

36) "It's time for the human race to enter the solar system."

My favorite Quayle-ism:

"What a waste it is to lose one's mind. Or not to have a mind is being very wasteful. How true that is."

-- Quayle at a fund-raiser for the United Negro College Fund, 5/9/89 (he was attempting to quote the line "a mind is a terrible thing to waste").

Wasn't Quayle the guy who thought that people spoke Latin in Latin America?

That's some outstanding work there Kerfuffle...I had forgotten a lot of those. That guy did make you shake your head.

The only other guy who was anywhere close to as many quotable quotes as Quayle was Harold Washington. It was always a treat to hear what he had to say.

He's the late 80's/early 90's version of Sarah Palin.
