Hey everyone. My wife and I decided to take a day trip to Chicago for the Cubs game on Labor Day from Detroit. We found dirt cheap airfare and tickets so we're taking our 13 & 11 year old nephews with us for their first trip to Wrigley. I have a couple questions if anyone can help me out.

What's the approximate time from Midway to the stadium on the "L"? From the CTA maps it seems about an hour.

Looking at seats in the 500 level around first base around rows 5-8. What rows are the posts in to where it would obstruct the view?

Thanks for any help provided.

You'd take the Orange Line and transfer to the Red Line. I don't know where you're staying but if you're flying in on the morning of the game I'd try to get to the stadium when the gates open two hours before first pitch so you can watch batting practice. You'd probably want to allot about 45 minutes to an hour for travel on the El, especially with the transfer you have to make. Enjoy!

I'm going to the Labor Day game too dood!

Cool. We booked everything this afternoon. It's going to be a birthday gift for my dad and Christmas gifts for my nephews. Couldn't beat the cost, $115 per person for airfare and game tickets. The boys start school the next morning so this should be a good way to end their summer vacation.

My wife and I are going back for our annual trip a couple weeks later. That's a four-day trip with tickets for Houston and Milwaukee. Going to my first night game which I'm really looking forward to.

Thanks. The flight lands around 11am. I figured about an hour to get to Wrigley. I think we're going to take in the atmosphere around the park since it's my nephews' first time. The flight back leaves at 8:30pm so we'll have a little time after the game too before heading back to the airport.

The CTA scheduler shows to transfer at Roosevelt, but we're thinking of riding in the loop and transferring at Lake/State so the boys can see the river and the Chicago Theatre. Would doing that add much time?

Yes, it would. Try not to pack too much in for a day visit here, there's simply too much to see unless you spend a weekend touring around.

Good luck and enjoy the city!

This trip is purely for the game, but we thought if we could show them something else without costing too much time, we would. It's not a big deal if we don't. Heck, they don't even know about the trip yet, we're going to surprise them.

Thanks again, everybody. I appreciate the input.

That's really cutting it close man. I think you'd probably want to just take small backpacks or fanny packs and only have your ID and money/tickets with you so you can just get off the plane ASAP and run to the Midway Orange Line station. Last summer when I picked up my friend at Midway the station was under construction so they might shuttle you off to Pulaski station before you can actually get on the train (that was last year though, hopefully someone else knows what the construction issues are).

If you don't care about catching first pitch it's not a big deal to ride around the loop but I'd save that for the return trip if you want to try to make the game on time.

We're definitely not taking anything with us. The boys might have a small backpack, but nothing else. Like I said, we're just going for the game.

I checked the CTA's website and there's no mention if anything unusual at the Midway station.

I think if your flight is on time you should be able to get to Wrigley at least half an hour before first pitch if you transfer at Roosevelt. Sometimes the El trains slow-track so you might be a bit delayed.

We did the trip yesterday and had a great time. Everything worked out just as we had hoped. Our plane landed around 11am, got on the train around 11:25am and made it to Wrigley about an hour before first pitch. We walked around for a little then headed in so the boys could walk around. We even waited in line so they could get first-timers certificates. After the game we walked around the outside of the stadium and then did a little souvenir shopping before heading back to the airport. We even had enough time to take a quick stop at Lake/State so the boys could see some of downtown and the river.

Thanks to everybody for their help. Hopefully, my nephews will remember this trip for a long time.
