  1. Chicago Blackhawks
  1. Notre Dame Fighting Irish
I saw them at the beautiful International Amphitheatre around 1972 or 73, Smoke on the Water just came out. Opening acts were Tucky Buzzard, don't remember them, and Savoy Brown, they were great even though some of them had just bailed to make Foghat.

That was the only concert I ever saw at the International Amphitheatre (I think I saw a rodeo or circus there years before this). What a fucking dump, the acoustics were worse than the Randhurst Ice Arena, that is really bad. It was the first concert I saw with weed, being smoked openly the whole place was a giant dope cloud. It was a great show despite the venue. Ritchie Blackmore was outstanding, really glad I got to see him live.

Saw them twice. But I'm not as old as 51 here.

If you saw them after 1973 there's an excellent chance the band you saw was a watered down version of the original. I hope for your sake you caught Blackmore in his prime.

The Blackmore days were the best.
I saw Blue Oyster Cult at the Amphitheatre, and oh so true about the acoustics.

This is great, I mentioned the Randhurst Ice Arena in my first post as an example of bad acoustics, I saw Blue Oyster Cult there. BOC must have sought out bad acoustics venues, better for the cowbell?

Fell in love with Deep Purple in the 80s.
I'm younger than 51 but after getting perfect strangers I went back and got heavy into their original stuff.
I'm sure 51 cringes on that album but it's what first hooked me.
