Just what kind of Trojan are you talking about?

Glad to hear that. Any info to pass off in case someone else gets the same issue?

Klem: It was Fakespypro, evil trojan that infects your AV files stating your machine is infected and promotes a fake AV software (which of course is bogus and does nothing to remove anything).

Biscuit: Took some finangling, but basically what I did was:

reboot in safe mode w/networking capabilities.

-Removed my original AV software, loaded a version of Norton I got through the DISA website availale free for military members. Ran a full scan twice.

-Loaded malwarebytes, scanned twice.

-Loaded spybot s&d, scanned twice.

-Loaded and ran microsfot security essentials, ran it twice.

-scanned twice with Windows defender.

After all of that system as clean.

Problem was I was still unable to connect to the internet. Turns out this trojan had gotten in deep enough to shut down my ftp, http, https, pop3, and smtp ports...so I had to go in and manually open each port again. Needless to say I was pissed at myself for being a dumbass, yet happy to be back up and running. All told this process started Friday afternoon and I was back up and running yesterday about 1100 a.m. or so.

Piece of advise for all PC gamers: if you turn off all background applications when playing your games, make sure you turn them back on, including your AV software.

That sucks Chief. I know its pricey but I don't understand why more people don't go with Norton. I love their products and haven't had any intrusions or harmful (successful) attacks in years on three completely different computers.

try running a little piece of software called combofix. I picked up one of those fake antivirus diddies, malwarebytes took care of most of the work, but it still left some of my ports closed, the ones digsby uses to connect to aim, and the one that itunes used to update anything. ran combofix, and its all back up and running as it should be.

I have been using the commercially bought version for a few years now, and the wife uses it on hers. Norton has a contract with the gov't for all military to get it free.
