Vinny Del Negro met with Bulls Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf on Sunday, but the embattled coach's 11th-hour argument to keep his job won't change what the Tribune has reported since December 2009:

Del Negro is expected to be dismissed with one year and roughly $2 million remaining on his guaranteed three-year contract. Barring a snag, the Bulls will make this news official Tuesday.

At that point, executive vice president of basketball operations John Paxson and general manager Gar Forman will embark on a search focusing on candidates with previous NBA head-coaching experience.

Doug Collins, Lawrence Frank, Kevin McHale, Maurice Cheeks, Byron Scott and Dwane Casey are some of the many names who fit that description and could receive interviews. Management is waiting to contact prospective candidates until Del Negro officially is dismissed.

CHICAGO -- The Chicago Bulls are set to announce the firing of coach Vinny Del Negro on Tuesday, according a source.

Sources said that Bulls general manager Gar Forman met with Del Negro on Monday. As part of the Bulls' organizational meetings over the past couple days, Forman also met with other members of the Bulls hierarchy about Del Negro's future. Bulls chairman Jerry Reinsdorf spoke to Del Negro over the weekend, when the Bulls coach made an argument to keep his job.

Calls to reach Forman and executive vice president of basketball operations John Paxson were unsuccessful.

Del Negro has one year worth approximately $2 million remaining on a guaranteed three-year contract.

Though the focus will immediately turn to a coaching search that could include such candidates as Doug Collins, Maurice Cheeks, Eric Musselman, Phil Jackson, Jeff Van Gundy, Byron Scott, Tom Thibodeau, Lawrence Frank, Dwane Casey, Avery Johnson and John Calipari, the Del Negro era goes out with something of a bang.

The Bulls' announcement comes after ESPN reported in December that the Bulls would move forward without Del Negro, and six days after the Bulls were eliminated in five games by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the first round of the NBA playoffs.

Not surprised, but who will replace him. I want Doug Collins, Byron Scott, Avery Johnson, or Tom Thibodeau.

The Bulls are not going to hire Scott or Johnson. JR is still paying Skiles, and now he will have to pay off Del Negro

True, but they should hire an experienced coach who's a "sexy name" who can only make the Bulls young players better.

Of course they SHOULD, but this is Jerry Reinsdorf we are talking about. He will **** this up and the Bulls will be coached by some no-name guy

Good riddance, Del Negro. All that screen-and-roll crap when you have a PG that can beat anybody off the dribble drove me nuts all season, especially since the Bulls only have one big that can hit a jumper, Miller. And I don't want to see Miller in a Bulls uni next year, all 7ft of him, 20 feet away from the basket, making 17 second drives to the hole, trying to emulate George Gervin with the finger roll...
