This guy thinks so:

Here are a few things I firmly believe about Deng:

1) He's very good at basketball.

2) He's far more valuable to a good team than a bad team.

3) The PER stat was invented to make fans believe that Deng is overpaid.

4) Many, but perhaps not all of his detractors, don't really get the game.

This is his contract year so the chances of a player doing good is always increased.

Nah... I think he has already peaked. If he's healthy, he may be more efficient, especially since Rose is back... but I'm not expecting him to have a HUGE season.

LoL, Dengs going to try and average a triple double a game this year because he wants to increase his value.
Hes tired of Paxson paying him chump change.
Hes going for the big bucks in next years free agency.

He will probably have a decent to good year. I don't think it'll be a career year or anything. Like BNB said, Deng's basically peaked so there's not really much more for him to improve on skillwise. Rose coming back will make everyone look better, Deng should be included.

Will Deng request to play less minutes this season?
It would be wise of him.
Playing less minutes could prevent an injury and keep his value up.
playing almost 48 minutes a game is risky for his future and his value.
Deng has stayed reletively health playing major minutes, butevenetually the injury bug will hit him.
Its inthe best interest for his health for Butler to rotate to SF more often.
It can also be in the orginisations best interest.....Butler should get used to playing more at the SF position because he may be Dengs replacement in the 2014-15 season.
This is one of my main reasons why i wish the Bulls would get a damned 2 guard........
I dont see Pax landing Lebron, so Jimmys the future at Dengs position............
landing a real 2guard should become a mission.............Unless the Bulls plan on resigning Deng which wouldnt make me mad.
Deng has played well for us and hung tough..........And Deng has done everything asked of him.....
Deng being resigned is the only way i see Butler staying at the 2G position.............

I don't think he CAN have a monster season. He is what he is, an asset to a good team but he can't dominate like many others could on a bad team. He doesn't make mistakes, knows where to be on the floor, doesn't require a lot of isolation plays. All that is why other teams, lower in the standings, wouldn't give up a lot to get him because if turned loose, he wouldn't give them bigger numbers, he'd play the same game. Bad teams are often bad because too many of the players don't want to give up stats to play the system.

A healthy team should allow him to play fewer minutes which should pay off in the playoffs. His scoring stats might even drop, which will have more know-it-alls calling for him to be traded. Butler should score more, Rose is going to be at 25+ a game, Noah might shoot better and score more. But Deng might get more assists and rebounds, offensive and defensive because his man will go to double Derrick and Jimmy.

It's so hard to guess what their offense will look like. It will be completely different from how last year ended with Nate gone, Rose back and Butler starting. If Snell gets minutes a big 2 guard off the bench is another change.

I like the conclusions this guy comes to: When Deng is healthy, he is better. When the only guy that commands a double team on the Bulls plays, Deng is better.

"monster" is not very well defined.

I don't think Deng will do enough statistically to be considered having a monster year.

The only other way he can have a monster year is if he has impacts that are not statistical (wins).

Inherently, the regular season does not matter to the Bulls. It is all about the playoffs. It does not matter what Deng does in the 82 regular season games. he has to be healthy, efficient, and a strong defender in the playoffs. The Bulls are going to face some talent at the SF in the playoffs. They need Deng to to play well. He is not going to out play Lebron or even play equal to Lebron, nor should he have to. He does have to make SFs work and cut down on their efficiencies and he needs to be efficient himself.

Deng's season will be judged by how well he plays in the playoffs.

Deng is getting hyped a bit here. For all we know he could be hurt for a good chunk of the season.

Unfortunately, I don't believe Deng has it in him to have a monster season. He's not a great Iso player, he's a glorified jump shooter who can play good D. And, unless you can beat your man off the dribble consistently, you'll probably never average more than 21 PPG. All and all, I think the Bulls are going to keep him and let him walk at the end of the year.

i think he'll have a bounce back year with rose back efficiency wise

i dont think his numbers will change much...pretty much count on 16-17 pts and 6 rebs with good defense and better percentages
