A Chicago Bulls team spokesman said Thursday that the team is aware, but unconcerned, that there is a photograph circulating via email and now on some Websites that appears to depict Bulls star Derrick Rose flashing gang signs.

The spokesman said the activity shown does not square with the Derrick Rose they know.

The undated photo depicts Rose, who grew up in one of Chicago's most violent and gang-ridden neighborhoods, seated with his hands raised and fingers crooked in the "pitchforks" sign of the Gangster Disciples Nation. It is unclear whether Rose is expressing a gang affiliation, or he was just joking with his friends at a party. An unidentified man is standing behind Rose, grinning, with his own hands showing gang signs, according to a police source.

Attempts to reach Rose Thursday were unsuccessful.

The Gangster Disciples, a large criminal organization with tens of thousands of members, is deeply involved in the Chicago's violent narcotics trade. Gangster Disciples have long been the predominant gang in the Englewood neighborhood on the South Side, where Rose grew up.

The photograph began circulating this week among local law enforcement officers in an e-mail. It is unclear when or where the photograph was taken. The photo has now been posted on some non-mainstream Chicago sports blogs.

I could honestly care less. Im surprised this has garnered any media attention at all. Slow news day apparently. Hopefully Derrick is keeping his nose clean and improving his PG skills. What he does with his hands in a photo is irrelevant to me.\

Now if he shows up with 9 new "disciple" tat's next year..maybe I will pay more attention.

The interesting part now is the police involvement.

Did the photo start being circulated by the police, and then one of them posted it online somewhere?

And also, were the police looking to talk to Derrick to try to get some dirt on the gang if he knew anything, or if it was just a "look at this" office email.

I'm flashing signs right now. Though it's pretty difficult to type at the same time.
