A pretty interesting photo gallery of old images placed on top of an abandoned school in its current state. All Lions jokes aside, really sad what has happened to that city. E.g.

They're selling houses there for 50 bucks, gun turrets not included.

Seriously though, the city needs to be bulldozed and turned into a park or something. The south and west sides of Chicago always have some hope, not the case in Detroit.

lived in Newport News VA while I was in the Navy, and downtown Newport News had an almost war-torn look to it. Crime rate was high, more businesses were closed than were open, etc. All because the Newport News shipyard expanded massively during WWII, and had been heading for bankruptcy ever since then- not enough business for the size of an operation that the shipyard had become.

I think it's sort of same story with Detroit and the Big 3 automakers, they were huge in the 40's, 50's and 60's but have lost a lot of market share since those days and don't employ nearly as many people. That's just impoverished the whole area

And it will never get better until the AW Union stops being so ridiculous.

Notice all the foreign automakers who have plants in the US stay the hell out of Detroit?

Really cool cropped lapsing. I think I only saw one picture, where the angle or the original and the current were off, very good attention to detail.

BTW, this is Cass Tech. Not all of Detroit, just one school. Although we all know how most of Detroit is doing.

For all the good that unions do, they do equal amount if not more harm! I'm not sure what solution is, but there has to be middle ground somewhere?!

When it comes to city employees, the contracts are a double-edged sword. Sure they provide job security, in some cases too much. Police and fire supervisors cannot fire their own people, even if incompetent at their positions. It has to be gross misconduct.

Not always. But the UAW is a corrupt piece of shit, and King should be shot in the fucking mouth.

Those dumb cunts don't even realize the damage they've done to their own livelihoods. And almost as bad, how much they've done to destroy the credibility of good unions in the US. Bunch of profiteering chucklefucks are just as bad as the corporations they claim to defend the common man from.

Stupid cum guzzlers.

The school teachers union here in Ontario are starting rolling strikes and all after school sports/activities have been cancelled until the issue here are resolved. Now they do have a grip as the government made some changes that are drastic to say the least. However, the real people paying the price here are the kids and parents. Now that's a damn shame!!

Air Canada a company that has struggled for a long time finally started making profits, well **** me if the union ain't right in there now cause they want their fair share ... I say fine, but when they start taking losses, take it from the employees! Makes sense right?

I was in Detroit last month to watch the World Series. The downtown area around Comerica Park and Ford Field as well as the Renaissance Center are very nice and lively at night. While the city still has a long way to go, it's nice to see the core beginning to take shape. It'll provide a nice foundation while the rest of the city starts to rebuild and hopefully revitalize. I'm pulling for Detroit.
