Ever since the increase in traffic, this site has been on and off horrible in terms of technical issues. Its fine in the lulls, but any sort of increased activity and the site bombs out. They take precautions and disable some stuff which helps, but then they undo it once traffic dies down.
If it were me, I'd keep things like the shoutbox turned off all the time and limit viewing to people logged in permanently (even though it is so damn convenient for me not to have that at work when I just want to browse/lurk).
But its not me, and we don't know the finances of the people running the site - and I won't pretend to, so telling them to sink money into more bandwidth might be unfair. Or maybe they are pocketing the donating dollars, who knows?
Point is, there are definitely things that could be done to run the site better, but at the end of the day, we need to recognize this isn't some big business forum - just a fancier looking forum paid for by some person somewhere who wanted to create a sports forum and news site - really no different than bleacherreport, except at least here they present things more honest and straightforward on the front page, vs b/r which tries to break fake news and pretend their real investigative journalists instead of couch monkeys like the rest of us playing reporter/columnist.
