John Wilkes Booth shot President Lincoln on April 14,1865. During his escape he broke his ankle and fled south. Two weeks later Booth was shot and killed at Garrett's Farm in Virgina. Or was he? A persistent rumor holds that another man was killed in Virginia and Booth lived a free man for 40 more years under the name John St. Helen, until he confessed in a suicide note that he was John Wilkes Booth. Now descendants of his brother Edwin Booth are willing to exhume Edwin and test his DNA against JW's remains to see if its him.

I think John Wilkes Booth was killed at Garrett's Farm but this is still very interesting.

Would be interesting, but im assuming the man shot in the barn was the right man. The guy that committed suicide just wanted to stir some shit up upon his death.

The "they actually lived under an assumed name and didnt die" theory has been associated with many famous outlaws from the old west, from Jesse James to Billy the Kid.

I agree with you TSD. Also the soldiers reported the very dramatic performance Booth gave when dying. He was paralyzed by the shot and said his hands were useless, useless. The most compelling evidence of course is his diary that was found in his pocket. But it is interesting how these rumors bubble up.

Someone watched the episode of "Decoded" last night.

I've watched the show from the start and some arguments are very convincing. Like the Lewis suicide, yeah they pretty much said that he didn't commit suicide and he was murdered. The Statue of Liberty episode, how they didn't laugh through this episode was funny. Especially the numberologist part

I think there is enough credibility to the idea that Booth might have gotten away that the DNA research should be done.

Interesting story but I think they got him when they did. Keep in mind they also dug up Lee Harvey Oswald's body in 1981 given conspiracy theories he was not buried in it. What did they find in the coffin? Lee Harvey Oswald.

Yes, but who is buried in Grant's tomb?
