sure seems like it.

MJ's publicist, Estee Portnoy, declined to say whether she was bidding on Jordan's behalf. Her final bid was $40,000. "I was just bidding to win," she said. "I didn't win."

Portnoy also declined to say if she had intended to return the rings to Brown, Jordan's former teammate. "I didn't have any special motivation," she said. "I'm just disappointed I didn't win."

Watch it come out that the winner was Charles Barkley, who split the cost with Karl Malone and John Stocketon.

I feel bad for Randy though. Hopefully he can get a coaching gig and be able to buy his rings back one day.

I saw that story too.

You would think if MJ was willing to bid up to 40K you'd think he would throw in an extra 13K to win. Idk.

Too bad that happened to Randy. From what was in the story, the judge ordered him to auction the rings. That's too bad it happened to him. He must of made some poor financial decisions over the last 10 years.

So many guys get caught in that trap.

I do feel bad for the ex players who go bankrupt to an extent. It's a shame the way the lifestyle gets to them, and how they don't really realize what they have or how to take advantage of it.

Not that I think any of you were worrying about it, but Luol Deng isn't going to be one of those players who blows his money.

Doug I know you just spent 53 K but is it to much to ask for the 98 ring?

Chris Duhon said that Luol liked the ladies...so he might fall into that trap as well.

MJ was nice enough to be willing to dish out 40 grand for a guy who didn't manage his money correctly. I feel bad for the guy, I couldn't imagine having to give up something like that, but thats what happens when your not careful.

What I don't understand is how none of his ex team mates have come to his aid?

He seemed like one of the favorites during that second stretch of titles. I'm sure that Jordan or Pippen could give him a job doing something for one of their businesses and could have given him a little under-the-table bonus of some kind.

I guess I'm making it out to sound much simple than it really is, but it's just a shame. I think the most important thing is that the NBA have to do a better job of protecting and educating their players to prevent these situations from happening.

I don't feel they are under any obligation to. They may have been teammates but if I had to guess they haven't talked in a long time. Not many people, no matter how much money they have, are going to dish out 50 grand to someone who has a history of mismanaging money and also haven't talked to in ten years.

I understand that there shouldn't be any obligation. But c'mon, you can hire him to a position in any of there business ventures, and provide him with a salary that could enable him to put his life back together.

The truth is, he has noone to blame but himself. I guess I still have some belief that there are people there that realize that money is just paper, and if it means giving up a dollar to help some body there are good enough people out there that would spare the change.

Not to get into my own personal details, but in my life growing up I think more than half of the issues involving my friends or family was money related and it's quite sad. Yes, money makes the go around, but it's because the world we live in that makes it so. But I regress that's an entirely different story all together.. Haha.

My bad.

Point is, he seemed like a great person, and it's unfortunate. Personally I don't see the big deal in him selling the rings, it's just materialistic anyway. I wish him well though..

Some years ago, Kenny Smith wrote for SLAM Magazine. He had a great article on how players threw their money away and on what. It was basically a guide to NBA players on what not to do. I still that magazine somewhere. I'll post it if I ever find it. It's a good read.
