Thanks for posting.

It is an interesting viewpoint. I know a lot of fans don't put too much stock into the farm system since KW has built many of his teams through free agency, but I think this organization really needs to do more in terms of scouting and spending on the draft to field a consistent competitor. It's a big shame that a team in the city of Chicago has such a poorly rated minor league system.

I knew that we didn't have much...cos KW brought up Becks and Sale so fast...I would want nothing more than to have a top farm system...but KW like to move young guys...idk

I guess my issue is...is he capable of building a top level farm system? And is he patient enough to let a farm system mature? I have to admit I haven't been paying much attention in the past, we be looking much closer now.

$ was a huge part of that. JR is not a proponent of spending big bonus checks a la Borchard (which is also his case in point; defense rests).

Maybe KW has been paying a lil more attention to the minors since around 3-4 years after 05when we didn't win it. Maybe sooner.

That isnt his philosophy. im 32 and have been watching his trends since he became GM. He will obtain some prospects here and there, just enough to be able to move them for a trade deadline player.

Im ok with them not building up the farm as long as they can keep enough guys there that when you need to make a trade you have some pieces.

Im never going to be one that wants the sox to do what the cubs are doing. Sure sometimes it works and you have young guys playing good baseball and they make it to the playoffs, Sometimes. I look at the royals who have had plenty of quality prospects/farm system. they still cant get it done.

But the Royals have developed a ton of quality players in the past two decades. Their issue is they can't keep their star players once they develop them. The Sox aren't going to have a good farm system with KW in charge. They have a better shot than before with the new rules about payment for amateurs, but that has never been a priority with Williams. It worked out once so far for him, and I guess we will see about in the future.

I agree. You can't put all your chips in free agency or the farm. You have to find a balance that works. I think that will become a bit easier to do that with the new CBA coming into play. The Sox do have a few guys that can make a difference in the minors right now IMO, but not as many as a big market team should. The next few drafts should help that if they focus more on scouting.
