I have not witnessed any preseason activity as of yet for the Blackhawks (F U WGN). For those that have what are your thoughts on our players. I would especially like commentary on our future Blackhawks or those that are new to the team ie; Carcillo, Salak, Hayes, D. Toews, etc....

Carcillo looks like he's running around with skate guards still on. Salak has looked pretty solid... shhould get a year in Rockford. Saad has been a freaking animal and has been the standout and most impressive player imo. Rockford is going to be STACKED this year. Is Saad old enough for the AHL?

I have watched bits of 2 of the games....Saad has impressed me bunches, and Pirri too. Pretty much the rest, meh. I am hugely unimpressed with both Salak and Emery. It looks like our #2 is going to be a huge question mark again.

Blackhawks reduce roster to 33

By Chris Kuc, Tribune Reporter

11:47 a.m. CDT, September 26, 2011

The Chicago Blackhawks' training camp roster stands at 33 players after they assigned forwards Kyle Beach, Jimmy Hayes, and Peter LeBlanc and defensemen Brian Connelly and Joe Lavin to Rockford of the American Hockey League on Monday.

The Hawks' roster now includes 21 forwards, nine defensemen and three goaltenders.

ONE-TIMER: Winger Daniel Carcillo is not on the United Center ice for practice. The veteran tweeted that he has a fever. * Patrick Kane is practicing as a center with Marian Hossa and Andrew Brunette as his wingers.

My favorite teams
  1. Portland Timbers
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
Kane as a center? Didn't we try that already and weren't the results less palatable than secretions made by a Calcutta prostitute?

Anyhow, Pirri, Saad, Frolik, Meyers, and Olesz have all greatly impressed. Stalberg was shit his first game, but the last two games he was surprisingly very solid (again, I think Q probably told him shape or or start in Rockford).

I prefer to see Emery stick for some reason, but I don't feel he's been the better goalie, guess we'll really see on friday.

I agree, Mass. Emery really hasn't really stood out as playing great, but I feel like he's faced more shots or maybe better quality shots.

I don't know, that could just be my bias showing. I like Emery and I'd like to see him get a shot as our backup.

Out of the games I have watched and the players I have been most interested in watching....

Saad has been the standout prospect as I think we all agree.

Montadore/Leddy have good potential as a pairing.

Salak and Emery have both left much to be desired. As far as I am concerned it's an even draw for back up. Not really easy to evaluate goalie talent in pre-season games but both are highly rusty at the moment. Both need time to get it off and adjust.

Bickell looks rough in my opinion. Which has been a bit of a disappointment to me. I wanted to see a strong camp and pre-season from him. We need him to step up this year. Hopefully he can.

Actually surprised by Stalberg. Hasn't been bad at all.

Frolik has shown his flashes.

Just a few players I have kept my eye on. Saad won my eye though he has just been that good. Future looks good overall though. Other guys like Hayes have also impressed me.

I thought Pirri looked good vs DET

It'll be interesting going into next season (funny, its 12 months away), but we haven't seen Morin or the other Hayes yet

You thought he looked moist....admit it.

Everyone looked good in that game in my opinion. Hardest working farm team in the business.

Wings are fucked this year.

I think it belonged in the fighting thread because I found this to be the most interesting part.

After the deaths of NHL enforcers Derek Boogaard, Wade Belak and Rick Rypien this summer, the value and role of fighting in the NHL was questioned again as head injuries remained a hot topic. Boogaard and Scott were close.

“I think it’s ridiculous to even talk about taking it out,” Scott said. “All those deaths had nothing to do with fighting in my opinion. It’s a moot point.”

Well self preservation is something we all have. Of course he thinks it's ridiculous, if they took it out, he would no longer have a job in the NHL, along with a good number of other players. That's also why you're never really going to hear a big rally for it to be outlawed from the players either, probably no matter what happens. No one really wants to try to get a friend/teammate unemployed.
