diy vaping question

I know a couple of you vape and wondered if you have a clear answer to my question. Ive searched the interwebs and have seen different answers.

I recently restocked my PG. i bought it from the same vendor i always do. It had the same bottle, same label, but the cap is different. Perhaps a different manufacturer?

Anyways, my older stuff that is coming to an end has no smell at all. This new bottle of PG has a slight sweet smell to it. it almost reminds me of sweet pancake syrup.

I didnt smell the other bottle when i first opened it and have had it for 4-6 months, opening it many times.. so if there was an odour its gone.

My googling has produced.... pg should have no smell at all, or it can have an nearly odourless smell (no description of the nearly odourless smell) .

the smell isnt overpowering, its fairly light... but i can still smell it with me nose right up to it.

should it smell or not? if so, what is the smell?

Sweet base liquid is VG, and the sweetness is the natural fructose in most VGs. I'm guessing they sent you the wrong thing.

i ordered both.. i cracked open a litre of 48mg nic to break down into small batches for the garage freezer while i made some 12mg juices. i got a bunch of flavor concentrates in today too and was just smelling them.... had the pg open before transferring into a smaller easy use bottle and decided to smell it for some reason and i smelled syrup..

the vg has no smell. without labels the only way i can tell the difference is the thickness. pg is like a thick water and vg is like a thin syrup to me.. a thick syrup when cold..

Not all PG or VG are equal.

VG has fructose. But not all VG sources come from the same crop of plants, so the fructose levels can vary, especially if you're buying on the cheap (using this word correctly, not to be confused with inexpensive).
PG is also sweet by nature, but nowhere near as sweet as VG, so if you're getting a smell or taste of syrup, you likely have an off batch. Notice I didn't say bad batch, because it's still perfectly fine and maybe you'll like it better, pending on what you want to do with it.

I usually cut my base juice down with alcohol, vodka or dry gin. The dry gin , because duh, it's dry, so if I get something a little too sweet, its one way to reduce that sweetness. Or if you get a base juice that runs a little too thick to really get a good vape out of it. A little goes a long way. Of course, that requires a bit ox experimentation per each person and preference.

danka.. ive left the cap off for a few hours now and i have noticed the smell is starting to slowly dissipate.. perhaps the last bottle had the same smell but i never noticed because i never stuck my nose up to it when i broke the seal the first time.. idk..

liquors.... fancy.. you also vape flavorless right? so is it just being used as a balancing/thinning agent or do you try to pull flavors from the alcohol?

im thinking about making some flavorless and trying it out.. but a local place was having a clearance sell on older flavor concentrates and i got a bunch for dirt cheap so idk when.. now i have tons of new different flavors to f with and mix n match.. maybe i should just make a quick batch and let it steep for awhile..

Yeah, I've tried everything at this point. Maybe vape once a week now? But that's what happens when you've been vaping for 10 years with no intentions of quitting, you wind up quitting anyways(unless you have anxiety issues).

Everyone is different, so I don't bother getting into what flavors or blends someone else should try. The alcohol is mostly flavorless, just for practical purposes(repairing wonky base juice) not to enhance flavors.
