I fly the flag proudly in remembrance of my Dad. He was a WW II vet . My brothers and sisters never knew what he done in the war , Mom shielded us from the facts. My dad worked in the steel mills until the plant closed because of cheaper Japanese steel. Later in his life my dad and mom started a business . My dad would always walk the parking lot to see who drove the Japanese cars , and would tell his customers to park farther in a special parking lot he reserved for them if they drove a foreign car. He was serious but the customers who drove the Toyota's and Honda's would try to park close to the building so my dad would notice their car. I think my dad knew what he was doing, the people who drove the foreign cars loved to give my dad their business and he would say a few words to them walk away look at me and wink. Now this was in the early 80ties, when imported cars were really starting to take off. Tha'ts my story and tha'ts why i keep Ole Glory flying, for my pride of country, and my Father.

Nope. The only time I even care to see the American flag is if there's some sort of international competition going on.

4th of July too, I guess.

I have one on my wall in the garage. I don’t have a light in a convenient spot to hang it outside.

No. Not really a big symbol/rah rah guy. Love this country. Just don't feel the need to advertise. Have zero problems if people do though and think it's cool if ya do.

I do not have the time to officially take care of the flag the way it should be, therefore, I do not fly it.

Related anecdote. Today I was driving and got cut off by a big jeep. At the stoplight I'm behind the jeep and I notice he's got a few weird Confederate flag stickers. One is in of the Palmetto tree (I'm in South Carolina so this isn't unusual), another small one, and I found out as I passed him a very large one on the rear drivers window. I also notice he's got a retired military sticker there as well.

It got me to thinking - and I'm assuming that someone with a retired military sticker in at least somewhat patriotic, although there are probably lots of reasons one would put it up. Isn't it sort of weird to fly the flag of an entity that seceded from your country, occupied a large part of it, fought a terrible war to keep it separate, and then was welcomed back into it by the victors with nothing but a 10 year slap on the wrist called Reconstruction? Is there some sort of fundamental disconnect thre?

I understand there's lots of cultural memory tied up in the flag, but to me that seems far more disrespectful than kneeling.

Not to mention the hundreds of thousands of Americans (probably mostly from the South) who died in the war they started.

No. I pay my taxes and treat people fairly and with respect. Don’t see a need to sport colors. But generally, I respect and don’t have a problem with people that do. Assuming they’re not hypocrites and actually honor what the country is supposed to be about. It’s not always the case but certainly it’s the case a lot of times too. I’m not too big into symbols, colors, and logos but I understand a lot of people who are.

ND is horrible.
FTR, IMO, flying the Confederate flag means that you’re a traitor to America.

I agree 1000%.

Fk people who broke away from our country and tried to kill American soldiers.

Why as a society we've put up with celebrating these traitors is really beyond me. I generally love southerners and appreciate their manners, but this irks me to no end. I have no issue with people wanting to tear down "monuments" to this act against our union. Yes, it is part of history, so was fighting nazis. Where are the Himmler statues?

Dem Northerners sure were the good guys. They fought for equal rights.
