Just a question. I am curious to see the responses.

I don't lend. but will give freely, if its within my means and reason.

Im with you. I don't loan money as the old adage of "if you loan a friend 20 bucks and you never see him again, it was money well spent" has been true too many times.

I assume you have a friend with the predicament?

I have but with limits. Never been burned, but I also did it with the expectation that I may never see it again.

I was the guy friends lent money to. i was always good for it but it has taken a toll in my life as i have gotten older. It taught me bad things about taking loaned money. At the time the loans were very appreciated but looking back at it now I wish my friends never would have lent me money when I wanted it..and I say WANT because I never really needed it.

I haven't taken a loan from a friend in 12 years. Im proud of that. VISA isn't my friend..so it doesn't count.

This seems to be a dude phenomenon. Your penises render you suckahs!

Honestly though, I don't think the subject has ever come up between me and my friends.

If a very close friend was in a tight spot and needed some cash, as long as I was able to give it, I would.

Haven't had that situation arise yet so I can't say I have done this.

I'm surprised to hear you don't borrow money from your friend(s).

Do you take out loans for your shoes & books? Trust fund?

I am very much of the mindset that it all evens out over time. You buy me a drink or give me $20 when I need it, I know I will be doing the same sometime in the future.

With that said, if the money asked for is like $1K, then I would be asking for some or all back on some type of plan that usually includes extended assistance with something I need done (i.e., helping me remodel a bathroom or something like that).

The topic hasn't been raised by any of my real friends, they mostly had family to help them out. I did have an acquaintance ask a couple years ago.. kind of, but it was a very dodgy situation. I barely knew the guy and he asked for $2,000 for "a hand up - not a hand out" so that he could buy a new mattress and TV for a new apartment (he and his wife had been living with their two kids at her mother's place and she was kicking them out), none of his long time friends would loan him the money either so I didn't feel too bad. The whole story gets even more ridiculous but It's take too long to type, suffice to say I haven't heard from the guy since.

This. Me and my friends do this all the time. Someone pays here, the other pays there. Don't really keep any tabs. The only extreme I have encountered was when we all went to a strip club. I "loaned" 6k that night. I wouldn't have really cared, but they actually took it upon themselves to eventually pay it all back to me.

I have my methods for procuring my shoes and books Mister. I could disclose them but then I'd have to haul ass to Olympia and kill you all Green River Killer style.

To be clear here, just because I don't borrow money from friends doesn't mean that I am in any way opposed to my friends "giving" me their sweet monies!

(BTW, how was Samuel's 1st birthday? Good times I suspect!)

To friends it has never been large sums of cash either way (me getting/giving cash)

I've borrowed from my parents/family a few times and given to family members/in laws without expectations of a repayment. Many of those have been for significant amounts. I always repayed my parents/family as quickly as possible.
