Does anyone remember The feverish desire we had to get a real center, because noah wasn't cutting it? A lost of people were clammoring for trading for okafer. I never liked the idea, because pairing up two guys who cant shoot and have the same strengths sounded like a terrible idea.

But i digress. I guess the point of the issue is that i do think Joahkim is a better player than Okafer. The reason i bring this is up is because Okafer got a huge contract. He might be a bit overpaid, but i think noah will get around the same contract.

well i guess it's time to get to the aching questions. What do you think the cap will be like next year/what's the CBA gonna look like? Will noah get less or more than okafer? Will our cap be eternally screwed up by letting deng have 10 million a year? More importantly, is this the real noah/will joahkim be worth his contract. (i'm not suggesting that joahkim is playing for a contract. The guy is all heart. I just hope that he'll be able to keep up his level of play. )

I think if Noah isn't better now, then he will be very soon. Provided he puts in the effort of course, but it's looking like he will. Okafor is still a good player, very good rebounder/shot blocker. Noah isn't as good a shot blocker (at least to me) but he's a better offensive player (or so it seems...his tornado shot is better than Okafor's I believe).

I hope we can get Noah for less than Okafor (he's got a deal starting at 10.5), but I think that what Okafor got is probably market value for Noah.

They're pretty similar players, although Okafor is the better scorer ... he's probably above average for a center offensively, and Noah is about average (which says more about the center position than either player's skills). Noah I think beats Okafor in most other areas though. Better rebounder, better foul shooter, better passer. We can only hope that contracts are indeed given out for scoring. :)

Yes. Okafor has been disappointing for where he was drafted.

I remember the debate leading up to that draft. Okafor vs. Howard.

Do you take the the chance on the high school kid or do you take the proven college player that just won a national title.

You can only really be disappointing relative to the strength of your draft. 2004 was a pretty weak draft, after Howard there are only two other all-stars (Harris and Nelson), and both of them may well turn out to be one time appearances. Okafor isn't that bad a 2nd pick, I don't think they missed much behind him.

I guess it depends on your definition of weak. If it's just based on All-Stars, then I guess it's pretty weak. But you see players like BG, Deng, Iguodala, Josh Smith, Al Jefferson, Kevin Martin, Delonte West, Ariza, Varejao, and JR Smith who are pretty good players. Then again...a lot of the players picked in that draft aren't even in the league anymore...

Eh...I guess it is weak. :p

Even the guys you list are only the types of guys who are maybe third best player on a championship team. It's not a 2000 draft level of crapness, but it's still pretty weak outside of Howard.

Well yeah they're not studs like Howard or one time All-Stars like Harris and Nelson, but they're still good players.

I disagree. Okafor has been a disappointment. He's not even with the franchise anymore. He was the first draft pick for the Bobcats. He was supposed to be a cornerstone and he just didn't live up to it. He won ROY but the Bobcats had no success. Now they have Tyson Chandler to show for it.

Don't get me wrong, he's not a bust. But he's been a disappointment. And I'm sure Bobcat fans would agree with that. You hope to have a star when you're picking 2nd in the draft. And Okafor was the best player coming out of college on a team that won the national title.

The 2004 draft was strong overall. They're have been far worse.
