Figured if JT gets his props, why not Kaner...

At this point in his career...vs other top American born players -

Age at Time/Regular season Stats/Post season Stats/

Hull (27) - 306gms - 232g - 161a - 393pts/ 51gms - 38g - 18a - 56pts

Roenick (23) - 341gms - 179g - 209a - 388pts/58gms - 28g - 27a - 55pts

Mullen (29) - 324gms - 167g - 206a - 373pts/40gms - 21g - 18a - 39pts

Modano (23) - 317gms - 123g - 186a - 309pts/39gms - 12g - 15a - 27pts

Kane (22) - 317gms - 103g - 200a - 303pts /45gms - 20g - 28a - 48pts

Lafontaine (23) - 302gms - 147g - 141a - 288pts/48gms - 14g - 20a - 34pts

Hardware

So far, Kane has won - Calder, Stanley Cup, Silver in Olymipcs, Bronze in WJC, Gold in U18 as well as his undercard fight vs a Buffalo cab driver. He's one of only 6 american born players taken first overall - Modano, Lawton, Dipietro, Johnson, Berard

Modano - 1 Cup, 1 Silver Medal

Mullen - 3 Cups, 2 Lady Byngs

Hull - 2 Cups, 1 Hart, 1 Lady Byng, 1 Silver Medal

Lafontaine - Masterson

Roenick - Silver Medal

He'll have a good shot at breaking Modano's records -

Goals by a player born in the United States (561)

Points by an American-born player (1374)

Playoff points by an American-born player, career (145)

Games played by an American-born forward (1499)

Patticakes may go down as one of the best American born players in the game...

I thought about adding him...

Both he and JT are on their way. They each have over 10 plus years left in their career and already have more hardware than a good majority of players ahead of them.

Both are superstars already.

No to Tkachuk. Great player but just doesn't have the "it" factor like many of his American born counterparts. And I will admit...this kid was a pretty big KT fan even though he played for some real fucked up teams.

Yes to Kane if he keeps on doing what he has been doing. Kane will destroy Modanos record because HE HAS TO!!!!!! HE JUST FUCKING HAS TO!! If he doesn't then heads are going to roll!!!

Pat Lafontaine is the best American born player in my mind. **** Modano and his 1499 games played. I'll give Modano the longevity award and he has been doing it on purpose just to piss me off as long as he possibly could. Lafontaine's career numbers are more impressive to me than Modanos. And I am aware Pat played in the era of complete offensive dominance and shit defense and goalies with small pads (well so did Mario and Wayner yet no one argues their accomplishments). But **** me that guy was a great player. Had not been for a shortened career Pats numbers would be monster ones.

Lets compare simple regular season stats

Lafontaine 865 games 468 goals 545 assists 1013 points (THAT'S AMAZING!!)

Modano 1499 games played 561 goals 813 assists 1374 points.

Dick head has played 634 more games than Lafontaine and has only been able to muster up 93 more goals. What a fucking joke. Mike Modano can go back to his imaginary world of "greatest american born player" while Pat Lafontaine can go to the real world and wear the crown.

Annnnnnnnnywhoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo...

Kaner has all the chances in the world to put himself in the record books. It's all up to him and he will need a little luck. Not many players can go through a 1499 game career esp these days. Only assholes like Modano somehow are able to escape concussions and knee injuries.

PK, if his career ended today would probably not make the hall. I am betting though that he makes it in the future, as his play becomes better and better and he matures.

Welcome to the boards....

Heck, if Pavel Bure has a shot to make it in, then PK has a better chance. He's got the hardware and the experience alone to get in. The extra awards from here on out can only add the icing on the cake.

He's in.

Good points on KT. Not sure about hall of fame material, but what a fucking warrior. Foley did an interview with him at intermission when he was scratched one of his last games here it was nothing but class. I also loved Savvy's stories about him that went around on WGN radio a couple years back.

As far as PK...

Let's get some more Cup winning goals and DROP THE FUCKING PUCK ALREADY! (you stealing linesman!)

If Kane's career got cut short I don't think he makes the hall. I think JT has a much stronger chance if his was cut short. Now if they play full careers there is no question they are both going to the hall. Heck even Sharpie might go, maybe not first ballot but Sharp has grow into a bonafide star and scoring threat. I don't think there is a more productive line in hockey besides STK. That line you have 3 playmakers and 3 finishers. The only thing is lacking is the big guy and Toews isn't small but he ain't the power build.

#8 & #7... Rick Jeanerette is a legend!

Good points about Walt... but KT was a tongue and cheek reference to Kyle Turris.

My favorite teams
  1. Portland Timbers
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
I agree with most...cut short...no. Plays a full career, yes--1st ballot. Plays as long as Modano...Destroys all of his records.

All 10 of those Lafontaine goals were sick. #1 may not have been dynamic as the others but anyone who remembers that game remembers that goal. Pat was one of the best stick handlers of his generation bar none. He shows it in those goals. Guy was amazing.

I know it's fun, and a slow offseason, but I can't help but laugh that these are the exact kind of threads we'd make fun of the vancouver board for.

Does Ryan Kesler make the hall?

That's a good point and just because it's not widely talked about in hockey doesn't mean that it shouldn't be. It should be taken into account. I doubt we see another player who scores 60 or 70 goals a season on any kind of regular basis or racks up 150+ points and it's not because there was such a huge gap in talent from then and now, it's like you said, defense and, not goalie pads, but goalie technique.

Imagine Ovechkin or Crosby or any of today's top players back in the 70s or 80s or earlier playing against goalies most of whom didn't employ some form of the butterfly. You think they'd top out at 40 maybe 50 something goals like they are now? Especially with all the shots a player like Ovechkin takes? No way. That's what makes Gretzky's records untouchable. The era he played in. Not saying he wasn't a great player, he was, he was beyond his time. It just so happened his time was also already a very highly offensive favoring time in the NHL.
