This is absolutely deplorable. If people can't afford to pay they can't afford to pay, it doesn't mean you can kill their family pets because of it. The article is a year old, I just came across it.

I've worked in the veterinary field, have friends that still do, and understand that the cost of housing animals and paying employees is generally ignored due to the sentiment surrounding pets, but damn...one day to come up with the funds? It isn't as though the cost of euthanasia drugs and body disposal is cheap, either.

I agree it's awful. Nor do I blame the animal control officers. They have a thankless job, most of them are animal lovers, and deal with the flotsam and jetsum of irresponsible pet owners on a daily basis. BHP posted a good documentary about what happens at the typical animal control shelter awhile back.
