Re: One Month To Something Or Nothing? Supposed Doomsday Thread

Ah...Well I was just joking. I honestly think nothing is going to happen. People have always been predicting the end of the world and they're always wrong.

It may not be the end of the world in terms of total destruction of mankind, but maybe something devastating could happen that reshapes the planet. Who knows? That stuff that's going on in the Gaza Strip is just a little to close to the date, if you ask me. So if you're asking me if I think the planet will be space dust on December 21st, I'd have to say no. But could things drastically change? Sure.

ahhh shit I should change my vote then.

The Mayas viewed the 21ist as an end of an era, not the end of times. I would say that it isn't the end of the world, rather the end of an old era and the beginning of a new one in the spiritual sense, if you believe in such things.

I don't believe anything of significance is going to happen. I'm a little disappointed and how much the hype died down regarding 12/21/12. Two years ago people were really eating it up.

IIRC, Nostradamus predicted the world ending in three-thousand something. So we are good for another 1000 years or so.

I think we'll enter a new time on the cosmic clock (age of Aquarious). Back in the day people used the stars to track time; now everything is mechanical, digital or atomic (miniscule).

Will everything change after 2012? Of course it will.

Change is the only constant in the universe.

can say right now, I can't wait for 12/21. It's a Friday before my five day weekend (Yep, three days off for Christmas). Other than that, no chance of anything happening.

However, if the dome of the rock gets destroyed in the next month then all bets are off. :bizarro:

I've wanted to own a missle silo for at least 20 years now. I knew even then that they'd go up in value; and can you think of a better place to grow hydroponic weed?

It was a no-brainer investment when they were still cheap, but I never pulled the trigger; my loss.

This is a pretty good run down from a NASA scientist about why we have nothing to worry about, at least in terms of 2012.

Ultimately there is going to come a point in time when the planet Earth can not support life, but no one knows for certain how or when that point is going to come.

The funny thing about life on earth, it has mass extinction cycles. We can read it in the earth like the rings of a tree.

Pick a date or time anywhere, or anywhen, and you are halfway to something. Everything will change sooner or later.

And most of the current crap crawling around on the crust isn't even a billion years old yet.

Mayans never calculated leap year (for obvious reasons), so the Mayan calendar were true, world would have ended already.

In a nutshell, the Mayan dudes calculated a particular event/time from some obsessive observations of the night sky. And then may or mayanot of started over again. ;-)

Side note; the great rift alignment with the center of the Milky Way involves such great distances that it may have already happened or may never happen at all. Silly Mayans.

Now if a Super Nova went off near by, and they carved a warning calendar for us, then based on the speed of light....we're fucked yesterday and just haven't woken up in the wet spot yet.

Doomsday predictions have been a profitable scam for centuries.

But but... Nostradamus was never wrong.... But but....
