The Bulls' second unit, with Brewer, Asik (-8.6), Watson (-7.0) and Taj Gibson (-1.6) has been much stronger defensively than its starting lineup. Of the starters, Luol Deng has the best on-off court defensive differential at +0.9.

Derrick Rose has the worst (and second worst in the league among those who've played 1,000 minutes) at +8.1, meaning the Bulls allow 8.1 points per 100 possessions more when Rose is on the floor than they do when he's off. But that's only because they're ridiculously good (90.9) when he's not on the floor. They're still excellent (99.0) when he is.

First Team
G: Ronnie Brewer (92.6, -8.4), Tony Allen (100.2, -4.4)
F: Andre Iguodala (100.8, -4.4), Kevin Garnett (95.5, -4.9)
C: Dwight Howard (99.6, +0.3)
Second Team
G: Manu Ginobili (100.5, -5.3), Chris Paul (101.7, -0.1)
F: Tim Duncan (99.0, -7.6), LeBron James (100.0, -4.6)
C: Tyson Chandler (100.9, -3.2)

Nice to see Brewer getting some credit. he has been outstanding this year defensively.

I'm not sure how the stats figure out, but Luol Deng has had a better then expected defensive year.

My favorite teams
  1. Chicago Bulls
I like the props given here to the Bulls and a lot of overlooked defensive players, but the more I read this, the more flaws I see with it.

For instance, rating 2nd unit players who play a lot of minutes against other team's second units. To me, when Korver guards a bench SG or SF, I expect him to show the same level of defensive integrity and perform. When he guards the top SGs and SFs, his defensive impact will suffer considerably. Thibs doesn't put him into those situations often at all (thankfully so). Thats when the numbers are deceiving, and any logical voter should overlook the stats and focus on how well players can shut down the toughest of match-ups. Korver is just the easiest target in that article, but it applies for so many players here.

Deng should make the cut. Brewer isn't an all-1st defensive team member this year, but if he made the 2nd team, I think he deserves it.

Right now, this is what I'm seeing.
G: Paul, Westbrook
F: LeBron, Garnett
C: Howard (DPOTY)

G: Brewer, Rondo
F: Deng, Iguodala
C: Duncan (Trying to verify, but I'm pretty sure he has racked up far more minutes this season as a C than PF)

If Rrrrronnie doesn't make the all-D team he's been absolutely robbed. Alas I think coming off the bench might hurt him in the voting.
