My theory is that it's the corporate world's ultimate joke on its workforce. There's something uniquely cynical about the juxtaposition of fun things like Cardinals or Disney t-shirts contrasted with the look of utter brokenness upon the faces of people who have spent the last four days having every fiber of joy in their souls crushed. They should have dress down day on Monday, when people still feel like they have a chance.

Discuss.

If someone's job is that soulcrushing it's time to find a new job.

My office is small enough, we don't really have to dress up or down.... Jeans are acceptable any day of the week.

I still wear dockers and a polo.... usually my Assassin's Creed hoodie over the top this time of year lol

My place graduated from the 1980's in 2013 and began business casual wear. Still no jeans. They have opportunities every once in awhile, but its wear. In any case, I don't exactly care.

Yep. And if you can't find one within a reasonable amount of time, just quit and spend 40 hours a week looking for a new job.

You're absolutely right. I'd love to work for myself.

It has more plusses than minuses in my book. But there are days when a steady pay check would be nice. I don't think I'd last 5 minutes in corporate America to be honest. Started out working at a country club at age 11 and never had a "real" job since.

I'm lucky that my wife has a job that pays well and great insurance. The last 5 years have been very up and down for my business but I can't see me working a regular job.

Then tell her you were fired (or get fired)

I once had that mentality that I needed to find another job before I could quit my old job. I ended up almost 3 years utterly miserable after I graduated college (even though I was only working a part time job, they treated me like a full time employee and that I was owned by them). I ended up being let go due to poor performance (which is debatable in my opinion), so I picked myself up, got to work, due to my complete utter lack of experience I still struggled but eventually I got into temp work and then that led to a full-time job that is giving me experience. I wish I would had quit 2 years prior and started this path, feel like I wasted a good amount of my life. But there's nothing I can do about that now. I'm okay with the way things have turned out.

My office is shirt and tie 5 days a week. Even though I sit in a cubicle all day and nobody important ever sees me.

If I didn't have so much depending on me providing a steady paycheck (kids, wife, bills), I would love to run my own business.

That's a good question. Unfortunately, pretty much everything I'm good at is not really a plausible business idea, and everything I'm qualified and experienced to do is in the corporate marketplace.

Sounds like my problem!
