So I'm sure most of us on here are smart enough not to but I thought I'd just go ahead and make a post about it anyway to help continue to get a point across. Earlier today I was heading through the parking lot of a strip mall where I just about got killed. I was in my lane and all of a sudden a driver, driving on the wrong lane, comes straight at me going about 50. Keep in mind this is in a parking lot. He barely missed me, if I were on the passenger side of my car I could have reached my hand out without even moving. He swiped a handicap sign and kept going at a slight angle until he hit a parked van(he was also driving a van) and then flipped. Luckily there was no one in the van and there was no one walking around that area when this incident happened. I immediately parked my car, got out and ran over while on my phone calling the police. I pried the one door open and was able to pull him out. He had absolutely no idea where he was and had no idea what was going on. The police came shortly after and gave him a breathalyzer and confirmed that he was intoxicated. Thank god there were no tragedies but I can't for the life of me understand why people do this. You may not care about your own life but there are others that can be put at risk and it's sad to see that people don't take that into account. I don't care how stupid you are, everyone should know better. On the flip side, you should always count your blessings. Had he hit me dead on I would probably be dead and he was only a couple of feet away from doing so. At the very least I would have been severely hurt and I'm only 20. No matter how old you are you aren't guaranteed another breath, don't take it all for granted and help make an impact on the lives of others.

Personally, if you're arrested for a D.U.I., you should be buried beneath the prison along with rapist and child molesters. The laws are WAY to lenient on this. It's a shame I know people with multiple D.U.I's.

I'm going to sound like a total asshole but I don’t give a shit.

It's too bad he didn't make it to the street, run a red light and get t-boned by a semi...

My dad got two DUIs this year, one in March and one in July. I didn't talk to him for a couple months because I was so angry.

When I was a teen and he still had some sort of control over my life, he would never ever let me go anywhere in a car other than with himself because he was horrified I'd get hit and killed by a drunk driver. Then he went out and started drinking and driving and luckily never hurt anyone but certainly had plenty of opportunities to do so.

I hate drunk drivers. I feel zero sympathy for anyone who dies at their own hand while doing something stupid and irresponsible.

Agreed. My dad would constantly pick up my little sister when it was his weekend to have her with a 6 pack in his van. I even remember my sister coming up with her boyfriend and friends in their car and my 4 year old nephew was in the car and they got home plastered. Thankfully, none of them ever hurt anybody but I have 2 friends who rolled over their cars drunk driving and I feel no sympathy for them whatsoever. If one of my friends had his seat belt on, he would've been killed because the roof caved into the driver seat.

Ugh that infuriates me. My dad used to drive drink with my little brother in the car and actually went off the road into a ditch one time with him. I was irate. If you want to make stupid decisions and get your own dumb ass killed, be my guest. But don't drag an innocent child along with you.

I agree with the sentiment here, let me preface with that.

My Dad has been an alcoholic since I was born, but he is an amazingly functional alcoholic.

He has been drinking and driving for probably 30-35 years and has never had an accident to my knowledge.... idk if he just handles it well or if he has just been insanely lucky, but he has never been arrested for DUI and has never had an accident DUI. I think there are more of these people out there than we realize cause my dad hangs with people just like him who are alcoholics and drink and then drive.

I am not condoning it and I drive us places when I go out with him so I know he isn't DUI but it is crazy that people live this way, and truly they do live it.... when not working, its Bar time, and even then.... lunch time = Bar time.

I rode with my uncle once while he was drunk, which was always. After that I called my Mom or Dad to come get me or rode my bike the 3 miles home.

I think once it becomes the "natural" state of being for someone, it becomes easier to do all the tasks you need to while still intoxicated. My uncle drinks Jim Beam and Diet Mountain Dew all day long and works construction.

Scum of the earth these drunk drivers.

As many of you know, I own and manage a super popular fancy restaurant. Drunken idiots all the time. The dining experience at my place is longer than your typical restaurant. 2-3 hours. We have a policy that when a guest tries to order a 5th drink, the MOD touches the table to determine if they have a ride or DD. You would not believe how many seemingly normal and responsible adults get shitfaced with no clue as to how to get home. It's pathetic and creepy.

I think what can be worse are the people who will give you shit when you cut yourself off... I have gone out with people where I have had a couple beers or something and I cut myself off to be safe and people will be like "WTF dude, really? really? Just have 1 more..." and I have to put my foot down and say no.

My one buddy has a habit of ordering alot of drinks for people when we go out.... he will order Irish Carbombs for the table or shots or something and I often have to remind him I am the DD so I gotta keep my drinking light and he sometimes drunkenly takes that "Awwww cmon man just do it" attitude.... people are lucky I am fucking responsible lol

My dad made it to the age of 55 without a DUI conviction, other than one he got out of when he was in his late teens.

Now he's got two. Never got in a serious wreck or anything but was always protected by living in a small town with cops he knew that would find him passed out at a stop light or in a parking lot with the car running and offer to follow him home. Finally they got fed up and issued some tickets but it does not make it right.

Cops down here sit about a half block down from the local bar, and wait for guys to come out and get in the car...Works like a charm...Bar owners are mad as hell cause its cutting into business..They started offering free rides home for patrons

I lovw cutting people off. They curse, pout, threaten and act like a two year old. I love it when they put me in a position to ask my favorite question:

Did I stutter? I got it from Stanely the Manley from The Office.

Just got a call from my dad... A chick he used to date before he went to rehab this year crashed her SUV while drunk last night and died. Because of her decisions, two young children have to grow up without a mother or a father, since he left ages ago.

Another drunk asshole ruining the lives around them with their stupid ass decisions.

They kill more people than firearms, yet no one is clamoring for more DUI laws. A lot of people consider it to be ok, because a large cross section of our population does it. These are the same idiots who would have been cool with slavery 180 years ago, or rape and murder and robbery during the Viking age.

post of the year. I have very very strong beliefs on drinking and driving. This story makes me cringe.
