Dumb Funk wraps up a Stellar Year

I've been watching Bulls basketball since I was 7 years old, all the way back to 1980. In those 28+ years, I've never heard a more embarrassing season from an announcer than the idiocy Neil Funk brought this year. Dumb Funk, as Kush as so appropriately named him, wrapped up the season last night with another gem. Did anyone catch this?

With about 2:30 left in the game, Gordon hit another jumper. I don’t think the ball was through the net before he started criticizing his shooting for the night. “Ben’s 8 for 20, but that actually looks a lot better than it was.”

What the hell does that mean? I think he was attempting to criticize him for scoring most of his points late as the Bulls made their comeback attempt. I guess he would have been better off scoring them in the first 5 minutes of the first quarter. Is 40% a good shooting night? Absolutely not. But 40% is awfully close to the career shooting percentage of his favorite son, who he never seems to utter a disparaging world about. I know it may come as a surprise, but Funk didn’t mention Kirk’s 0-6, 0 point night, at any time during the telecast. I’m sure if he did, it would have been, “Kirk’s 0-6, but that actually looks a lot worse than it actually was.”

Words cannot describe what a complete moron this guy is. I’m going to take the time to write a letter, and I encourage you to do the same.

He needs to be fired, and the Larivee (WGN games) and Dore (Comcast games) combo needs to be brought back.

Stacey King can stay, as he is a solid color commentator. Anyone who read the chat with King knows he clearly knows what he's talking about. I think Funk drags down King's quality quite a bit.

Last night, in the 2nd quarter, when the Bulls closed the Raptors lead from 20 down to 6, Funk said, "Good bye Toronto".

And then all night he kept saying Cleveland would no doubt beat the Sixers.

Yea, I'm able to look past dumb announcers and enjoy the game, but Neil Funk is absolutely atrocious. I'm sure someone will make a post saying something like "oh he's not that bad, just don't listen to him", but really, Neil Funk is that bad and shouldn't be allowed on television.

The thing is, good announcers can add a ton to the game. I actually love the radio guys. Swirsky is a pro. And Wennington is pretty good too.

The best game I heard all year was with the TNT combo of Albert, Fratello, and Miller. That skit Fratello did with Benny the Bull was hilarious. They actually add a lot to the game.

And people who say, turn the sound down...well, you can't always see which team took the timeout, who was the foul on, how many fouls does that this guy have....you need to hear that.

Best thing about League Pass is that when I watch Bulls games its 50/50 that they show the other teams broadcasting crew, so i am good.

Raise your hand if you want Neil Funk fired.

Okay, 1-2-3-47-132-479-5034-10270.. All of you, then?

There cannot be a more hated broadcaster in the NBA right now. If he is not fired before next season, I will forever believe no one cares about the fans. This is probably the one subject where all Bulls fans agree.

A lot of people already wrote the Bulls org. letters, it was posted on rgm. Hopefully they at least consider it. Swirsky is so much better than Funk its not even funny.

And Wayne Larivee is better by the largest of margins. (I know the phrase is "by the slimmest of margins", but in good faith, I could not say that Wayne Larivee is better than Neil Funk by just the slimmest of margins.)

The funny part is that I really liked Neil Funk when he was on the radio last year with Bill Wennington. But that gig was a bit different as he constantly had to talk and describe what hes seeing....with TV, he doesnt have to do it as much (we can actually see whats going on) and thus, there is more dead time. This gives him the opportunity to say stupid sh*t and make an ass of himself.

Dore got a bit dull at times, but I still liked him. He knew his stuff, and always did a good job. With that said, I'm not sure that the Bulls would ever bring him back.

I enjoy Chuck, but I don't know if he's a big enough homer to be the TV guy. Chuck would be an outstanding national announcer, because he almost calls an even game on the radio.

I would like to see a Chuck and King combo next year. I didn't like King at first but he has grown on me. The Sixers game where Rose broke Miller's ankles solidified my liking of him. He does get me laughing quite a bit with some of his comments.

I think King could help bring the homer out in Chuck.

My favorite teams

 1. Chicago Bulls
 2. Golden State Warriors
 1. Chicago Bears
 1. Chicago Blackhawks
Maybe I'm crazy, but I was excited when I heard he was going to be on the TV broadcast...until I heard him. He was pretty good on the radio, so I don't see why he doesn't do as well on TV. Actually if you listen to the play by plays of famous plays, it's him making the call. I think Kush has some of those calls in his intro. I don't think he should be fired, just moved back to radio. Maybe Swirsky would do better on TV or maybe hire Laravee or Tom Dore again.

Oh yeah, Good old Neil is the voice of my show intro. Funny how that worked out.

To be honest, I think Funk has calmed down a bit. He was so bad for a long time. There would be like 5 or 6 times a game he'd say something that would drive me nuts. Hasn't been that bad lately, then again the Bulls seemed to be on TNT every week down the stretch.

(1) Absolutely disgusting by the patron.

(2) Suspension with pay

(3) RL policy to suspend when a receipt is publicly posted...I am guessing privacy\PCI Compliance concerns

(4) Absolutely disgusting by the patron.
