I knew this would come up. You never saw the burns. The lawsuit actually forced McDonald's to fix their requirements which held coffee at almost 200 degrees. She also tried to settle for much less, only asking for medical damages, in which McD's repeatedly refused to pay. She also wasn't the first to be burned by McD's coffee and they constantly refused to change their policy, which is how it became a gross negligence lawsuit. The media portrayed as a frivolous lawsuit for one reason, to give reason for many states (obviously "persuaded" by corporation & insurance lobbyists) to put a cap on the amount of money you could collect in a lawsuit.
