After one season in the EC, I hear that the Dynamo may go back to the West with Montreal coming in. I thought they'd stay here until the Cosmos come in.

cosmos is not a done deal. Hell, MLS changes what they do often enough, perhaps they'll even go back to 3 conferences.

I'd be all for that, 3 6-team conferences would have been ideal this year.

Ya. It was us, KC, CLB, DAL, and TB. Think it was officially called the Central Division though.

Yeah, If they're not going to move to a single table format, it'd be good if they divided the teams into 3 conferences.
If they did, you'd be looking at:

East:
Philly
DC
NY
NE
MO (Montreal)
TO

Central:
CLB
CHI
KC
FCD
HOU
CO (Colorado)

West:
LA
SEA
PDX
RSL
SJ
CHV
VAN

That would also mean that expansion should (rightfully) go to 1 more east coast team (20th league team) and 1 midwestern team (21st league team).

This idea would reduce the "when" of the 20th team, and 2nd NYC team being announced, and shift emphasis to which midwestern market wants in? Will the Minnesota bid come through? Will Saint Louis be able to find deep enough pockets? Will Detroit actually get to referb the silverdome and use it for mls? Will Milwaukee become a fierce local rival of Chicago and enter the MLS fray?

Right now MLS is looking for 100 mil to join for the 20th spot--so I can't see them actually using my idea and/or looking for less than that as a buy in to the league--and I think if they do split to 3 conferences, it would be silly to not look to move to 21 teams for the time being and then let the expansion stop for a while--this will allow the league to mature, attract/develop talent, and not further weaken the domestic talent pool.

With 21 teams, we would officially be the largest (as far as teams) Division I league in the world, right? And with single-table, we'd only be able to go up to 20.

never investigated that...interesting. A single-table wouldn't limit us to 20 teams, but it is a good fit and number with plenty of anecdotal evidence from other places to support it's case.
