I thought three was right. He went off his feet and hit Kruger's head and pushed forward on his head. And there was no penalty on the ice. Gotta make up for that. I guess?

Never said 3 wasn't right, I guessed it would be 1 or 2 games since he has no past of suspensions or fines.

Yeah. I figured 2, but I hadn't really SEEN the hit. I only saw it happen live and the little replays after. When I watched the Shanahan video I realized how bad it actually was.

I think it should have been more than 3, but in this case I'm okay with it because Scott gave him part of his punishment immediately afterwards.

Shanny doing a hell of a job cracking down on head shots.

Some Pens fans were a little upset because Paccioretty only got 2 for a "dirtier" hit on Letang who has been out for a month since. But, this hit was dirtier than that one in my opinion. You have to watch the slow-mo to see how bad it really is.

Clearly the helmet protection technology is not nearly as advanced as you give it credt for- it is impossible to legislate without better equipment.

I don't know what the league can do about that, but it would be an interesting discussion.

Edit: The other thing too is that medical science sometimes gets credit for being more exact than it is; I think that there has been some major advances in detecting and diagnosing concussions/brain injuries.

Did you see the first episode of HBO 24/7 where the team doctor is working with Giroux after his head hit? He's sitting there doing a connect-the-dots :bizarro:

Yeah. I saw that. I was like, I hope I never suspect a concussion because I would fail that whether I had one or not.

Is it stupid to think that he got an "extra" game since it wasn't penalized correctly on the ice? He should have gotten a game misconduct. Granted, it's penalizing the wrong perpetrator...but I imagine it comes into consideration.

That's very possible. The fact that Kruger is hurt also plays into it. Usually first time offenders don't get more than 2 games, but I guess Shanahan thought it was a really bad hit.
