I have a pretty good family.
I’m lucky to have married the great love of my life.
We have two great kids... one college one HS.
Really decent for the most part.
Spoiled... my own fault.
I spent a great deal of my life gone for work.
You tend to make up for it out of guilt.

Long story short my fantastic lady is a wicked good cook.
Born in Tennessee and raised in Texas.
The kind of cook that can roll out biscuits a restaurant would kill for.
You get the picture.
She makes a to die for quiche...
So tonight she tried to mix it up with some Mexican flair.
Along with a fantastic bean dip... which was awesome.
She worked pretty hard at it as always... everything with love.
You know what I’m saying... rushes nothing... every seed gone type of thing.

My asshole kids turn up the nose and ask what else is there!
I was wicked pissed... it was very good... just different.
I’ve traveled the world and seen kids starving.
I literally wanted to stab them both....

I will straighten them out later... had to walk away.
I saw a defeated look on my loves face... I can take anything but that!

I once frowned at my mother when I was 1 or 2 as she tried to feed me eggs.

I wore the eggs that day, or so I am told, over and over.

They will appreciate that shit when they get older and have to cook their own food.

I appreciated the gringo version of tacos my mom made from age like 7 thru 18....

Idk why college/HS aged kids wouldn't want to eat Mexican cuisine.... seems odd.

Not the cuisine... just a twist on one of the staples...

What was the staple/twist?

Sometimes good ideas wind up with bad execution.... lol my sister makes this simple shredded chicken taco meat in crock pot with just a jar of salsa, taco seasoning packet, and 3-4 chicken breasts.... my aunt makes it with mango salsa and my cousin says it comes out fucking awful when you use mango salsa instead of regular.

The karma of the universe is that your kids will be dicks to you in all the same ways you were a dick to your parents, and you will live it day by day for the rest of your life.

Shit I don’t know...
She makes a great quiche... tried something she saw.
I thought it was outstanding... I’d eat it anytime she made it.
I think you’re missing the point.

My kids have a line, with Mom, it's right there with she's the best mother in the World. With me it's much more lax. Treat and Joke with me, but not your mother. My kids know they need to respect her the most and that if choices have to be made on love, they lose every time to their Mom.

Has my wife made things I'd rather not eat? Yes. But I eat it gratefully. And when the time is right, I tell her the truth if I'd like to have it again or not. Gosh, I got 5 more years of my kids not having this finesse? :(

One of the reasons I don't have kids... I am certain they would turn out to be assholes.

The situation you describe happened exactly once in my family- my older brother turned his nose up at dinner. My dad put his plate in the fridge. The next morning, I got a bowl of oatmeal, My brother got his plate from the night before.
He didnt eat it.
It was there again for lunch. And dinner.
My brother finally caved and had a go at it... ate a decent amount.

Never again was there a complaint about what was served. If you didnt like what was on the table, you gutted out a few bites and waited for the next meal, but under no circumstances would he or I utter a bad word about it.

I got your point and agreed your kids should just like Mexican cuisine, but then you corrected me that it was a twist on a staple.

Just describe what it was for us, I am interested.

If she made something that sounds delicious, I will flay your children, you have my word on that.

Kids have to be top priority man. It’s all about them. Now try to be a better father than Rick Grimes please.

The simple solution to this problem is: the next time you all sit down to dinner together she makes their absolutely favorite meal but only enough for you and her.
