Well apparently we are in to signing bargain bin defensemen that can't actually play defense.
The upside -apparently he can play either right or left defense ... the downside ... well, apparently he is expected to play defense, and while he may well be a pylon ... he is a foam rubber one... or not very intimidating despite what looks to be his relative immobility.
Think a slightly kinder and shorter version of Scott; and Scott -well ... I don't know what he is aside from in the press box.
