Negotiations between the players' union and the owners are moving at a fast pace according to Joel Sherman of The New York Post, and he reports that the two sides have all but agreed to adding one wild card team per league. A one-game playoff would then determine which wild card team advances. The system could be installed as soon as next season, but no later than 2013.

One of Sherman's sources said it was a done deal, another said it was likely to play out that way. Nothing will become official until the next Collective Bargaining Agreement is signed, however. The current CBA expires in December, but the intensity of the talks gives both sides hope that a new deal will be announced during the World Series. The owners are interested in expanding the playoffs to increase the number of contenders, as well as add inventory to sell a TV network. The one-game playoff would create additional incentive to winning the division.

A major hurdle that remains in the CBA negotiations is the draft, particularly whether or not to include a slotting system. Sherman says there is also a lot of work to be done creating two 15-team leagues, which in part hinges on the sale of the Astros since they are the club most likely to move from the NL to the AL. Six five-team divisions would help create a more balanced schedule.

Changes by likelihood:
Florida=Miami = CONFIRMED
Extra Wild Card Team to each league = PROBABLE
Slotting System = UNLIKELY
Astros to AL = UNLIKELY
Global World Series = HIGHLY UNLIKELY
International Draft = HIGHLY UNLIKELY

Every other sport has their confrences/leagues mixed everyday. It's time for baseball to join the others.

Houston won't move to the AL for 2012 anyway, since the schedules are already out.

The Florida Marlins will become the Miami Marlins for 2012 when they open their new stadium.

Interestingly, the Cubs defeat "Miami" in 2015 in Back to the Future Part II, so if Houston doesn't go to the AL, maybe Miami will...REVENGE!!!!

That's the rumored logo. Not confirmed yet and Marlins front office is saying that it is not the logo.

Thank God, I don't want to look at that thing 6 times a year!

Personally, I like the fish logo they currently have. I'd just repace the F with a stylized M and keep the fish overlay.

Thank you! I love their current logo TBH

I don't like the idea of adding one more wild card team... I'd rather add two more, one to each division and have one game play-offs or something like that.

What would the playoff format be then?

3 opening series per league and then the top team in each league still in the playoffs gets a bye?

I'd add two wild card teams, or essentially the top 2 from each division advancing to the playoffs. Two teams in each league that have the best record get first-round byes.
