I could see machines and robits doing everything for us one day. Then they become sentient and we will have to fight them. But we will be so lazy that we create machines and robits to fight for us.

Haven't you see Terminator? We're not going to even make robots to fight the robots - we're just gonna steal the other robots and reprogram them.

We laugh about stuff like this and poke fun at it, but in all truth I could see this happening. We automate everything, because no one likes to do the menial, dirty labor, nor does anyone want to pay the people what they want to to do it. We downsize and streamline our business process' to save on profit margin....there is your corporate greed. Yeah I can see it happening.

Oh and I meant for this thread to be a (mostly) serious discussion about it... I just wonder if that same desire for profit (greed) is going to find a way to stop post-scarcity hence, the "better bullshit" proposed in the article.

During class one day, a 3rd grade teacher was trying to explain to the class how to use the word "Definitely" correctly in a sentence. The teacher decided the best way for her students to learn how to use the word correctly was to use it in a sentence out loud in class. The teacher asks the class who would like to use the word in a sentence first and Susan raises her hand. Susan says aloud, "Grass is definitely green". The teacher then explains that she is wrong because grass sometimes can be brown. John raises his hand and tells the class that "The sky is definitely blue". The teacher corrects John also because "The sky is sometimes black, gray, even orange and green with the weather". Finally little Timmy in the back of the room raises his hand. Once the teacher called on him, Little Timmy asked "Do farts have lumps"? The teacher reply's "Um, no, I'm sorry they don't Timmy".

Timmy then looks down, and then at his teacher and exclaims "Well then I DEFINITELY just shit my pants".

I dont know, I just see too many problems (not just the idea of a robot revolt).

It would create the inherent problems with communism. We would still need people to maintain the infrastructure and know how to fix shit. Those would essentially be the only jobs.

If we had everything automated, we could live in a communist society where everyone CAN have everything. Therein lies the problem, we would need more government control because we would still need people to do the job of knowing the infrastructure system and fixing it if it breaks, so who does that job if no one has to do anything? the government would have to force people to learn/do it, because if everyone gets everything, who wants to be the one stuck doing a job while everyone else is on easy street?

it just wouldnt work.
