Anyone on here like figs? I recently started eating them, they're so good for you. The texture is a little weird though, still getting used to that. All I can find near me are dried figs, fresh ones spoil too quickly to get fresh and I live in too cold of a climate to plant my own tree.

The kinds I've seen near me are mission, calimyrna, & turkish. Mission figs are darker and have a bit of a tart taste to them. Turkish figs are dried a bit more and are quite a bit chewier. They also look like a galapagos tortoises ballsack. I think my favorite is the calimyrna fig. The ones I get at Sprouts are sweeter than mission figs and not as chewy as turkish figs but they are more expensive.

I haven't used them in any recipes yet, I just eat em plain. Anyone have any recipes that use figs? I'd definitely give em a whirl, I think it would be interesting

I'm the only one who likes figs here? That's too bad, they're pretty awesome

I found some fresh mission figs at sprouts the other day. They're a lot softer than I thought they would be. They also don't taste as fig-y as a dried fig but are still good

I can't stop eating them though... better for me to just stay away completely.

Wai...wha?.. You don't like fig newtons? I don't understand

Kidding aside, dried figs taste like fig newtons just without the cake surrounding. So you probably won't like that. Fresh figs taste like dried figs, just not so intense. A good comparison would be to say it's watered down, maybe

Figs indeed. I got a shit load of them from Tony's Finer Foods, they were cheap too. My wife stuffed them with blue cheese and goat cheese and wrapped them in bacon, roasted them.

GOD HATES FIGS

o

I would argue the opposite, GOD loves figs...the forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden was thought to be a fig, so maybe GOD didn't want Adam and Eve to eat his stash because he loved figs

Everything in the animal kingdom loves figs too. Territory wars are fought over fig trees, that's how important they are

I ate a whole package of Fig Newtons once. I'd like to do it again.

We just picked up from fig "butter" from the store. Delicious. Fun fact is the difference between butter and say a jam or a preserve is they don't add pectin to the former so it has less of a gelatinous texture.
