Great thoughts.

I've long comment that people complain too much about the "one-on-one" mindset, but it seems like that's what is expected frequently from the players inside the offense. I also agree that it's why things don't look great for Deng in the future.

This offense isn't built well for him at all. I think Luol Deng should send Skiles half his pay check, because his ability to make a SF without the athleticism or ball handling to take guys in isolation, without the strength to play in the post, and without the range to shoot the NBA 3 and turn him into a dynamic offensive threat for a couple of years is pretty amazing.

On the flip side, Deng's defense and rebounding would really have helped us out a lot in this series.

Given we're stuck with Deng I think you've got to make some effort to make the offense work with him. If we're going to persist with Noah and Tyrus you can't also have Deng as a non-threat (as you've outlined).

I think you're being kind by saying teams play 15 feet of Noah. When I see Noah with the ball there my thought is "what, are we hoping to score by the other team dropping dead with laughter".

One thing I think Doug said on his podcast a while back was he'd been told scouts think Rose makes up his mind what he'd going to do before he starts his move and tries to do it regardless of what else happens. It seemed like through the series Boston figured that and really started to cut him off when they recognised he was going to attempt to score in the lane. To me it seemed like Rondo was far better at taking advantage of the options that opened up than Rose, and the offense probably starts to look better if Rose can do the same.

I don't really see Deng's skills being less utilized in Vinny's offense than Skiles' offense. I think the difference is that

1. Luol Deng was forcing offense this year. He would get the ball, pump fake like 20 times, and then throw up a bad shot. Under Skiles, he let the offense come to him.

2. Luol Deng is just missing his jumpshot. In 2006-2007, his one really good year, he was automatic from midrange.

Check out this graph.

FG% is what to watch for Deng. If he shoots the ball well, he's useful on offense, if not, he doesn't do well.

I personally think we havent seen VDN's arsenal
I think either Bernie or Del Harris stated that VDN had alot of plays but they're not good if they dont fit your talent.
It's also been stated VDN wanted to keep it simple primarily for Rose to learn the PG position, as well as for the young guys we had at the beginning (Noah, Sefalosha & Thomas).

Next season after a full training camp I expect a more complicated playbook as well as plays that play better to Luol Deng's strength's (if he's still here)
