Final Roster...

Hey all, first post but I've been lurking for a while (here and on CBMB)....

Who would be on your final 53 man roster if you were making the decision?
Based on what we've seen so far, this is how I would set up my final roster and practice squad...

2 QB: Cutler, McCown
3 RB: Forte, Bush, Ford
3 TE: Bennet, Maneri, Pope
6 WR: Marshall, Jeffrey, J. Anderson, Weems, Bennet, M. Wilson
1 FB: Onobun
1 KR/PR: Hester
1 LS: Mannely
1 K: Gould
1 P: Podlesh
4 OT: Busrod, Webb, Scott, Mills
4 G/C: Garza, Slauson, Long, Britton
4 DT: Melton, Paea, Collins, Minter
5 DE: Peppers, Wooten, McClellin, Washington, J. Anderson
6 LB: Briggs, J. Anderson, D. Williams, J. Bostic, K. Greene, Costanzo

I made minor changes but your roster looks pretty realistic to me.

Aromashadu is the better receiver over Weems however Weems is a better special teams player. Cutler's past chemistry with Aromashadu gives him the nod as it promises at least some production at WR.

Unga (if healthy) is a better blocker than Onobun. That is trump with the FB position but couple that with Onobun’s poor hands and Unga gets the nod.

Like both of your guys rosters. But usually if your not a starter it comes down to the best special teams player who makes the roster, so I think it would be weems in that situation

James Brown will make the roster

You think so?

I know they had him listed 1st on the depth chart but he was garbage in the 1st preseason game and it looks like they really are trying to keep Britton who can play all positions on the line.

Unga (if healthy) is a better blocker than Onobun. That is trump with the FB position but couple that with Onobun’s poor hands and Unga gets the nod.

I think Onobun is a better blocker than receiver and could play a role similar to what Evan Rodriguez was supposed to play, or fill in as TE if someone gets hurt which I dont think Unga could do. Its easy to find FB's that can block but not guys with the physical talent of Onobun.

Pretty good roster IMO. You nailed the WR.

FB - Although Onobun at FB is unlikely, as he's 6'6" 260lbs (FBs stocky and close to 6' for blocking leverage), & I don't know coaches have even played him there yet. I think FB will go to 1 of the 2 FBs on the depth chart: Tony Fiammetta (6'0" 250lbs) or Harvey Unga (6'0" 237lbs).

OL -Mills has certainly made strides, and Kromer actually stated Britton has made the 53 and Kromer plans on 8 OL. However, I think Mills rise points to 9 OL, as I think Brown is near a lock (where I'd put Hurst or Walters on PS). Or perhaps Mills rise will cause a cut of Scott, or maybe even Webb.

DL - At this point, if Bears keep 9 DL, I think it will be 5 DT with Corey Irvin and Minter, with Anderson out (or PS).

CB - CJ Wilson or Hurst certainly have a chance to sneak on 53, but unless they can kick butt on ST, they're more likely PS.

Pretty close to what I see happening too, I just can't see Onobun or Hardin making the team.

No matter what the coaches are saying right now I just don't see them being able to not have Webb on the roster this year. If and that’s a big if Webb isn’t starting then he will be the swing OT

I would be surprised if they keep 3 QBs when Blanchard has another year of Practice Squad eligibility left.

You are probably right about the QB spot. It is just kind of dangerous IMO to go in with only 2 QB's on the roster. If Blanchard for some reason got snagged off the PS, (not that I think he is the future or anything) it would be really awkward if Cutler got concussed again. I guess a really quick signing would cover that, but I'd rather have someone that knew the offense at least.

The TE position on the depth chart is probably the most unpredictable right now behind Bennett. Since Bennett is a good blocker too I think they will go for another blocking TE between Maneri and Pope and a receiving TE between Onobun and Adams.
