Well, that was a blast!
If you've never travelled with Section 8 Chicago and Sector Latino, you need to come out with us sometime. Round trip to Columbus and back with match ticket was $65. Seriously. The bus is BYOB, but there is PLENTY to go around for those of age.
As far as the game goes, Berry managed to not learn from his mistake--especially against a known commodity in Dom Oduro and his speed. I was EXTREMELY disappointed that Berry got turned and burned so easily for a second game in a row. I wasn't mad at the penalty.....it wasn't a penalty as there was no contact--but Dom sold it and the ref bought it. Sean went the right way, but Higuain put it in the place a striker is supposed to, low and the furthest corner from the keeper.
I didn't have a good feeling going into the game, but I kept it to myself and waited to be proven wrong. I'm glad I was. Dealing with security on an issue and I heard the first one go in. We rushed over to see it and caught the second goal. WOW. The legend of men named MAGEE and scoring with their chest lives on!
After the final whistle and a few tussles on the way out (mostly with security and police), we got aboard our busses and left the worst state ever, rejoicing at the sound of the Blackhawks win....Seriously....most of us are also Blackhawks fans (some are hardcore, and some [like me], support them b/c they are a Chicago team).
A wonderful surprise came at about 2am when we were contacted by Frank Klopas who asked when/where we were pulling over for a rest stop. The reason he asked is because he had decided to drive back to Chicago after the game and wanted to meet up with our buses and personally thank all of us for coming out and supporting the team. SERIOUS class move. So, we stopped off and met up with him and drove the rest of the way home.
At the end of the day, a long bus ride with a lot of gin and malort, an early goal giveaway and 2 goals in a span of 10 minutes of SEXY ball on the part of the Fire, and then another long bus ride with more malort and a visit from the head coach.....how many other sports give you that type of access and entertainment?! I love our league. It may not be the best, but it's ours.
