Great call on Tower of Power. Excellent and precision musicianship for 45 years. Their singers and horn section will knock your socks off. Here is a live perfromance that sounds like a record that has been mixed for weeks

My second would be the Brian Setzer Band. Take one of the world's greatest Guitarists and put on a killer show yet he is more well known in Europe than here

Ricki Lee Jones. The definition of cool. Every female rock star for 20 years after her 1979 debut patterned her voice after Ricki. In this song Last Chance Texaco she describes a broken relationship in term of car terms. Brilliant

Her debut album is called one of the great debut by rock critics

Waiting for Ommy's fourth mini-installment of his monthly music thread here.

Nice choices, but I would argue the underrated aspect, if the term underrated weren't as subjective as musical taste itself.

To add to the RLJ love, here's a great cover by her:

Here is a hip, cool song by Rickie on her debut album. The bass player on this is over the top. At the time there wasnt anything in rock music like her. Afterwards I can image every producer telling aspiring female singers to "sound like this"

I love the line: "keep your business in your pocket where it belongs" LOL

Here is another underrated band: The Crusaders. They were around for 40 years in various forums. Jazz/rock fusion stuff. Fabulous musicians. Great stuff to listen to as background music.

In 1975 I went to the Rolling Stones concert at the stadium. This was during their sloppy drunk period after Mick Taylor left. They were drunk on stage as usual. But the warm up band was the Crusaders. They tore it up but the crowd booed them. I couldnt believe it. Here is a clip of them doing the Carol King classic: So Far Away

About 6 months ago I saw an interview with TOP band leader, Emilio Castillo. He lives in Oakland in a small bungalow which reminded me of Oak Lawn, but without the charm

For as much as people credit Zep with kick-starting them into music, I think Zep is perfectly rated. This is coming from a giant Zeppelin fan. I think they're the greatest group to ever come together personally.

For me, I think Richie Blackmore's Rainbow is underrated, as well as David Gilmour as a guitarist. That guy is awesome. The solo in comfortably numb gives me chills every time and is one of the greatest out there.

EDIT: And Alice in Chains, they seem to get lost behind Nirvana, Pearl Jam, And STP in the grunge movement.
