Fredi Gonzalez could be next Cubs manager :: CHICAGO SUN-TIMES :: Cubs

Thoughts? I wouldn't hate the move but would rather want Girardi (1st but unlikely), Sandberg (2nd), then Gonzalez (3rd). I actually liked Gonzalez when he was with the fish, they played pretty good and he will bench a player for not hustling and I like that. He did that with one of the best players this year in Hanley and he was pulled from that game and did not play for 2-3 days.

I wonder if he would take the Cubs job over the Braves job though, since he's probably the favorite for that job as well.

He wouldn't be a bad pickup....much better than Eric Wedge, but I agree that the manager priority list should look like,

1. Joe Girardi
2. Ryne Sandberg
3. Fredi Gonzalez

Me too, I think that could end up getting the Cubs in trouble. If they really do want Gonzalez, but also want to wait and talk to Girardi, that could be an issue.

I would guess the Braves quickly offer him the job, perhaps as soon as their season ends. Unless they make the World Series (not at all impossible) they could very easily offer Gonzalez the job before the Cubs.

I think the most important thing is to get a coach with some fire. Lou didn't have it, the team obviously didn't care. Any of these guys mentioned would bring some fire to that position.
